My wife does not show the slightest interest in any of my collections, including my autographs. She generally classifies everything as "old rubbish".
When we were still in our romantic phase (forgotten exactly when that was) I bought her nice examples of Macca and the Stones, her all time favourites, and a nice copy of the signed Blinds & Shutters book from Genesis. I packed them away when we moved several years back and since then she has never even asked where they are!
In some ways I don't mind this total lack of interest as she does not have the slightest idea what things cost. That can be quite handy, even when you keep your finances largely separate - as we do - and you have most of your auction post sent to a correspondence address - as I do.
One big downside, however, is that if I were to "pop my clogs" tomorrow she wouldn't have a clue about values and where to sell. I fully intend to prepare a detailed inventory this year, showing rough values and potential outlets, but I have been saying that for many years.
Do other members also feel they are collecting in isolation and do they do anything to encourage spouse interest?
Do others also have the same fear as me that everything could end up being more or less given away?

My other half was one of the reasons I decided to collect seriously. She loves seeing what I collect and often here in NZ she is happy to come along and help with in person collecting and meet some of the stars.
I have to say that she often has much better luck getting to the big stars and has got autographs from everyone from The Stones to Sting over the years when they refused to sign for me.
None of my friends who collect have their other halves interested in the hobby and it's great to share something with someone who shares your enthusiasm
My wife basically does my handling and picture taking at shows. She has met a ton of people but none really impress her. However at Chiller Theater show in NJ they had the Land of the Lost show actors (what I thought was a horrible kids sat morning TV show). So even with no interest I splurged for a photo and sigs with them just to include her and make her happy. She loved that show as a child. She was just about shaking and nervous to meet them and so happy. They were also very nice and we talked for 10 minutes. My other hobby is bird watching and I drag her along on trips. She wont even bother looking at a Snowy or Great Gray Owl! Ahh seen one she says.
