Don't celebrities sign stacks of individual pages that are later inserted in a book?

I've heard that a celebrity who has an autobiography coming out, will sign stacks of individual pages that are later inserted into "special editions." 

Any truth to that?

That is pretty much how a lot of books are being "signed" these days - perhaps the majority. It's not a new thing, been going on for at least 10 years that I know of.

I think a couple of the major retailers in the US were behind it in the first place (Borders, e.g.) and it has just been becoming more and more common each year.
