Ebay Seller Gymman89 Sells Forged Signed Mickey Mantle Joe DiMaggio Baseball For $300

Before I continue, below are links showing hundreds of examples of forged Mickey Mantle baseballs, photos, etc. found on Ebay (the most dangerous place to buy autographs if you're a casual collector or impulse buyer).

Check out this forged Mickey Mantle/Joe DiMaggio baseball sold by Ebay seller Gymman89 for $300.00.

The "Buy It Now" was $600.00 but the seller accepted the "Best Offer" of $300.00.

What a waste of $300.00!!!

Ebay seller 19bronco19 writes "It’s your decision if you want to get a PSA Quick Opinion or JSA or Beckett. My world does not revolve around their decision. I know where the hell I got this ball. If you live and die with those 3 Authenticators so be it."

Funny.

This is a prime example of why selling forgeries on Ebay is actually easier than selling authentic autographs; with Ebay so heavily-populated with delusional autograph collectors and impulse buyers, it's no surprise that Ebay makes a mint from the sales of forgeries.

These are your typical forgeries that are seen on Ebay every day.

There are tons of scammers out there.  I always tell them to send it in to a reputable authenticator and I will pay all of those costs.  They always have excuses.  Here are three recent replies. Separated by ****'s.

I have sent "yulka143" 3 follow up requests just asking for JSA authentication number.  This guy has now disappeared.  (still has many items listed on ebay).  I also sent him a note after the ball was at JSA for a considerable amount of time asking for an update.  He told me that the JSA office where he said he personally took it to and had an appointment told him all of their authenticators went on vacation and they had to send it to Florida.  That made no sense to me.  I called JSA and they told me they would never do that.

What price would you be willing to see the ball for?

yulka143:

I’m waiting for letter to send to my house

Your previous message

What did they tell you?

yulka143:

No I didn’t receive yet need to find out what take so long

Your previous message

Did you get the ball back?

yulka143:

I had to leave the ball there and they told me the process takes about 2 weeks. Once it’s complete they will call me and let me know so I can come and pick it up

Your previous message

Outstanding! My son will be thrilled when I give this to him. Did they tell you how long it would take to receive the LOA? I have only mailed in balls in the past and that process took 2 weeks. Did they authenticate it while you were there or did you have to leave the ball?

yulka143:

Good evening so I went to JSA I paid $75 and they told me that they will mail letter to my house with authenticity. So when I will get letter I will send it to you as proof that this ball is authentic

Your previous message

Absolutely I will purchase it if the LOA shows the ball as a genuine Mickey Mantle autograph. My offer of $600 stands. As I mentioned I will pay for the authentication as well. Pretty sure a JSA LOA is $75. I would have paid the shipping to get it authenticated as well so that would have been about $50 with insurance. I will give you the $50 anyways to cover your gas to drive it there.

yulka143:

So I would like to be clear when I got JSA authorization you will purchase this ball because if you don’t want to buy I will not drive for 2 hours to get authorization only if you interesting and you will buy this ball

Your previous message

If you are accepting my offer I would prefer it be authenticated by PSA. JSA is reputable as well but I would prefer PSA. Authentication fees are about the same for either and I will pay for either as long as it does come back authentic.

yulka143:

I will get is done thanks for your advice

Your previous message

I will be more than happy to point you in the right direction on how to get it authenticated. It's so simple an 8 year old can do it in about 10 minutes. I would be willing to give you $600 for the ball and pay 100% of the authentication fees assuming the ball comes back as genuine. Just let me know and I will send you simple set by set instructions on how to submit it.

The short answer is no, I can not do that. I no longer use or fully respect JSA or PSA. Quick story......I specialize in boxing memorabilia and about 20 years ago I paid about 10 grand in conjunction with a group of collectors that secured a private signing day with Muhammad Ali. I had numerous items signed including a large number of gloves. To improve the resell value I send a number of them to PSA along with the Ali signing contract. PSA declined every one of them as 'non authentic'. They cost me thousands of dollars and rarely use them or JSA any longer.

Will you cover the authentication fees if the ball comes back fake? I will send it to the most reputable authentication company out there, PSA. Cost with shipping for authentication would be about $150. If the ball comes back genuine then you would owe me nothing. If the ball comes back fake then I would want the amount I paid for the ball plus the authentication fees returned. Since you witnessed the signing there is really no risk to you. The autograph does look suspect to me which is why I will send it in.

Just so many idiots on Ebay that 90% at least are mental midgets, why do you even bother? You can clearly see they are fake as hell.

Tell them to do a quick opinion for 10$ based on their fake listings.
