Eight Days A Week - What do you think?
Went to see "Eight Days A Week" last night.
For anyone interested enough in the Beatles to buy their autographs I would say this is an absolute must.
The movie concentrates on 1963 to 1966 and, as such, only touches on my favourite years of 1967 - 70, but their earlier live performances certainly come across as much more powerful than I had imagined. They also seem to have played a lot of covers, harking back to 1962 and before. It is mostly US footage which is probably just because there is just far more US footage in existence. At least they show the UK LP covers.
I would say this is a feel good movie rather than any kind of critical re-appraisal or deep analysis of the group. I cannot think of one really negative thing said about any of the four throughout the whole movie. Maybe the heavy involvement of Macca and Ringo saw to that. Everyone who visits this page probably loves the Beatles but I'm sure they weren't all sweetness and light. There are references to smoking pot and John's Jesus statement is featured quite prominently but I would hardly call this digging dirt.
Hardly any autograph signing. There is a brief glimpse of the Hamburg signing that Thorsten has on YouTube but that's it.
I found it rather odd that the credits remembered Taylor, Evans and Aspinall but not Epstein and the two deceased Beatles. Maybe that's because T, E and A were so involved in the tours.
My personal highlight came at the end. Footage from the rooftop Let It Be concert. Nothing new here but great atmosphere and music. Did Ringo really have tea towels on his drums?
Anyone else seen the movie? Any thoughts?

The wife and I saw the film on the 15th...the place was PACKED!!! You had original fans like us...lots of teens and pre-teens...all ages. At the end of the film people cheered and applauded...and they did the same after the Shea film...it was a great night. The Beatles just keep going on into the 21st Century!!! Yeah,...Ringo has tea towels on his kit...using them to dampen the sound. Also on this day...Sept 20,...John Lennon told Paul and Ringo
at a meeting at Apple that he was leaving The Beatles.

I enjoyed the movie! The one thing that really bugged me was the colorized film. For some clips, it looked absolutely horrendous! But I really liked how they pieced everything together and the overall presentation.

Hi, I was lucky enough to go to the Premiere and thought it was a great film. Got within touching distance of Ringo and Paul, but no autograph opportunities. Paul signed a couple of items on the red carpet (blue actually); A photographer near me asked Ringo for his autograph to which he replied, ' Well you KNOW I don't do that !'

Visually it was great seeing all the footage and they captured the humor and the atmosphere and everyone in the theater was great, but the film didn't really dig into anything at all; I guess that is what the anthology is for.
