I wouldn't trust team/player holograms as provenance Zipper. I meant bang on provenance in the sense of the person who actually acquired the item themselves directly from a player and team and KNOWS it was used in a game. An example is the Bonds game used items being known as fake.

Rich, in terms of photo matching its extremely easy to find specific marks such as grass stains and stitching that can photo match an item perfectly. It's impossible to forge that as well.

It's not impossible to forge at all.....heard of JO Sports? They would do "reverse photomatching".
They would find images of a jersey during a game and doctor a jersey to look like it

I've heard of the JO sports scandal, but did they actually doctor jerseys perfectly to have them match photos? I heard that the reason they got caught was the same reason here; collectors could not find the 100% matches of the items of the supposed days of use.

For many, many years Players used clubhouse guys to sign their fan mail etc, this is just a newer version of a clubby. Im not shocked this has come to light. I've heard for a while now about things along this line happening but I thought it was a rumor, now it makes me think.

The difference is that "clubhouse signatures" were signed for fans and distributed as free "souvenirs." A big difference from faking game used material that was intended for sale and sold for big money.

The former is a "white lie." The latter is criminal fraud.

I agree, its just like people who sell historical type artifacts such as dirt from Tupacs grave (just made that one up). No matter what COA it comes with, it could be dirt from the dog kennel. These type of things just cant be proved. And with the examples similar to the one i mentioned above, they should never even be considered, as it is all around appalling.

Big blow to Steiner.. they get away with their prices because they are thought to be so reputable.....also agree that game used stuff is usually too risky
