Elizabeth Taylor - legit or not?

This pretty signature almost looks too good to be true. Lots of lines and very airy - what do others think about it? On the back of the photo it says 1953.

Hi Eric -

i looked at the ‘best wishes always’ and it seems almost identical to the one on the cead - so I was hopeful it was legit. It is on EBay now and i’m Not going to bid on it but is fun watching how high it will go. And to learn more about ET and her signing!!

Henry - on which example? What date and color page? There was a "B" that appeared similar but look at the nature of the base loop? I do see what you mean.

I looked over the thecead (see 1953 pink ballpoint and those around it) - the "Tay" here seems a jumble? Three segments? Other things seem odd - slants, forms etc.

See what Joe says.

that's not to say yours is bad. It just means there are several differences

Henry, look at the end of the "t" in "Best" - backwards in the color example when you track it, no? Other things? Baseline overall? And the "Taylor" is in 3 segments - why not 2? Some appears OK, but overall...it is so atypical from what I see. Ask Joe W for another look.

I look at the ‘always’ and it looks like the same hand to me. I agree that the ET doesn’t look like her signature but like I said - maybe she was happy and in a good mood and was being flowery in her writing. We will probably never really know for sure.

Oh, I do not believe that for a moment. Henry, just focus on the connections between the "a", the "l" and the "w" in the word "always". The lower parts, inverted humps if you will, between the "a" and "l" and then the "l" and "w" - one set is smooth curves back up to each letter - the others are pointed. There is also a curve common at thecead - op the "st" in "Best" and the "sh" in "wishes" - seems lacking here. Look at the relative heights of the "h" is "wishes"...what do you see?

You just said previously the entire signature doesn't even look like hers. As a general rule, only collect what Steve Cyrkin calls "slam dunk" examples - blatantly genuine signatures. You want to hear "WOW!" not "its what?"? If a signature is authentic but so atypical as to be what will amount to "problematic", pass.

Some sellers, and some others etc,. would LOVE for collectors to think "you can never really know" and uh..."submit" to that thinking. I am not one of them.
