In the late 90s, when McGwire signatures were really hot, there was an authenticator named Randall Hahn who was spot on Mac signatures. it was the ONLY signature he would authenticate, and for him to put his name on the letter of authenticity, it had to meet all of his criteria, based on several years of collecting and studying Mac signatures. He could even tell you the year it was signed. Many times, he would "reject" an item, and even tell you it was close , but just didn't meet his standards. The consequence was there are times he may have turned down a legit mac signature, but if he passed it you KNEW it was real. I did send in a Mac ball, signed on the SS on an NL ball (very very rare back then) that stumped both he and Jimmy Spence (they used to help each other). that was the time I got the "no opinion" letter. The difference between the "rejection" where it just didn't stack up, and the "no opinion" letter (which was very unusual) was that the signature looked good, but he scripted the STL25 in a place I have not seen before, and have not seen since...to the left, under his first name. They are normally all to the lower right. I don't remember what form the refund came in, it might have been a credit toward a future authentication.

bottom line is that with someone like Randall, who only authenticated Mac signatures, and there are a couple of others that I trust (Richard Simon is another one), if they pass it, you felt good about it. Can't say the same for the larger companies that feel they are experts on every signature in the world.

Seems like they should have declared it real/ Who cares about the other writing? Hell. could have been done by a previous owner. If the sig is real, then its real.

Seems like what is being said is that if an abnorality in the autograph puts it at the inflection point where it might be real or might not be, then you can't authenticate cause you are not 100% certain its real

Those signed photos were on eBay for a month or so. So much consistency between all of them. The same thing for those two "58" photos. It looks like whoever it was learned a signature and did it the same every time. Almost eerie.

gREG, I also saw those 5 autographed photos, first the seller had asking price of 7000$.

I was getting a deal for 5500$ but thanksGOd I turned it down. Yes Im very easy to ripp off :(

Finaly it was sold for 4000$ .

Are all these new listings? They look like the new Elvis forgeries. Word is getting out on them. The discovery appears to have been first found at R&R, with Roger and Rich Consola.

I saw one of what was just found by R&R, Roger and Rich. I'm not sure of the other ones, and in fact, I'm not sure how to reliably identify them. This is new and not all sorted out yet. Give everyone some time. This is not a lynching...or people or autographs.
