Hi Gents, just signed up for the website and I guess this is my introduction to everyone.

Been an Elvis fan for as long as I can remember.  Both parents loved 50s & 60s so grew up with this music.  Confession time:  accidently broke my Dad's 78s when I stood on them.

As part of my contribution, I would like to challenge everyone to a quiz which I hope will prompt some debate so that us lesser mortals can learn more about differences between genuine and fake.

Attached are 10 examples of Elvis's signature.  The challenge is to  tell me which one's are genuine and which one's are fake.

Have a go and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks Sling,

I assure you I am not easily offended, just stating how some observers may perceive (or may not) perceive the response.

I am familiar with how things go on the website as I have read numerous threads but thanks for your concern.  This is simply my way of introducing myself.

On your other point, I can also assure you I do not consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination, just a life long Elvis fan (amongst others of course).  If I was I would be more confident about venturing back into the field of collecting signatures.  As I stated earlier, the intent of this little exercise is to promote a debate which I hope will help others and myself learn something from those who are far more knowledgeable so we can all (hopefully) buy with a little more confidence.  I would hope that even those considered to be experts in this field would agree there is always the opportunity to learn more and it is not about being right or wrong, but helping the industry improve.  At the end of the day, is this not what this an other websites exist for?

I will be able to offer adequate information to support the answer when it is revealed.

sounds good. I am just an observer but think such challenges are grea

But remember one thing Jupitar, they have found another planet bigger than you!  hahahah

I believe so.

The latest news is that a planet bigger than Jupiter escaped the suns orbit and is now drifting as a lone planet through the cosmos.  Apparently this explains Pluto - though I can't get my head around that one.

I think it does orbit the sun

Not according to NASA, who call these "Rogue" planets.  Apparently they think they have discovered one that is simply roaming through space.  Hope it stays away from our Solar system as it could give us all one big headache if it bumped into our little rock.

we are probably talking about different things. I am talking about what nasa calls planet 9 and indeed  is thought to rotates the sun (to be a planet it has to rotate sun

Hi Sling,

We are now on my second passion, although not sure how we got on this subject on an autograph website.

You are correct, we are talking about different things, although I am familiar with planet 9.

I prefer not to correct statements from others, but in my defence I think I should qualify my last comment as you have indirectly challenged it, then hopefully we can get to the original intent of this thread -  a planet is no longer simply defined as one that orbits our sun in our solar system.  In recent years, news discoveries have resulted in a change to our understanding and our definition.  Rogue planets are those which roam the galaxy free of the gravitational pull of a single star - also referred to as free-floating planet, orphan planet, nomad planet, starless planet or interstellar planet.  It is a stand alone body in the cosmos that is thought to orbit the galaxy directly under it owns mass.

Would be more than happy to continue this on a more appropriate website.

I have a bit of knowledge of these matters too. What website can we go to?

I m referring to planet 9 discovery over the last couple of weeks which is said to rotate around the sun.

I am familiar that even our own sun over its history probably had dozens of planets that eventually escaped our gravity. I did not know that they are still considered planets (is it fair to say that phrase exo planet while using in it the word planet is quite different from just the noun planet?

I'm little changed my opinion.

#1 - authentic. Time period: 1956-1957.
#2 - can't be fake, it was signed in person in Germany, 1958 (it's one of the rarest authentic signatures of Elvis, which was signed in Germany). Elvis' autographs of that period is very dangerous, but this is real one. However Germany is the full of Elvis fakes autographs.
#3 - how I said before, I don't like a few places, and even it's a real, I wouldn't buy it.
#4 - it's fake or Elvis was drunk :) Without jokes, it's a bad fake (99%).
#5 - it looks like on autograph from 60's, but I believe that this is good fake (maybe I'm wrong...).
#6 - authentic. Time period: 1955-1956.
#7 - authentic, it's also from RRauction guid (but personally I wouldn't buy it);
#8 - authentic, RRauction guid.
#9 - authentic, it's signed document in Germany.
#10 - authentic. Elvis signature from childhood.

Many thanks Timothy,

This is a great response and the type I was hoping for - as I stated previously to Sling it is not about being right or wrong but about becoming more knowledgeable.

I think everyone would agree that you don't have to be expert to learn that Elvis varied his signature a lot.  I for one learnt this fact quickly over the net (particularly from the contributions on this site) and that there is widespread debate amongst experts as to genuine or fake examples often with conflicting views.

Must admit I am a little disappointed by the lack of take up on this or the absence of explanation to help qualify comments.  I suppose I am not surprised as this seems to be the way these days.

I think if you renamed you title many more would tune in

OK I am up for that.  Would you have any suggestions?
