I recently purchased a Ewan McGregor autograph that was heavily discounted because it's smudged. I know it's not an ideal signature, but I have two questions:

1: Does it appear authentic?

2: If I were to take a magnifying glass and a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol, would attempting to remove some of the worst smudges make it better or worse?

Thank you for your help!

The autograph looks pretty typical to me.  I would not attempt to clean it.  Smudges happen in our hobby, particularly on the street.

Thanks so much for your help, and for your advice! I'm not too worried about the smudge. I'm just happy to have his signature. So I think you're right. Best not to risk it. Thanks again!

Looks real and as mentioned, I would leave it too.

Your proposed method of cleaning it could end in tragedy!

Many thanks to all three of you! You've convinced me not to make the attempt. Almost certainly, the smudges were made by Ewan's own hand as he moved from one photo to the next, so it's a part of its history.

Thank you all for making me feel better about it!
