Obviously, there are so many fake autographs out there whether, eBay, auction houses etc. Some will be sold intentionally, some innocently.

My question is do you bother to contact the seller and tell them? What drives you to do so? And, if you do, what sort of response do you get?

I ask because I see so many - and have been wrestling my own conscience about whether to flag them up. I'm no expert (new to this), but even I can spot a lot of them ...

you will get mixed reactions if you contact the seller.  The truly honest ones will thank you (this is rare), many of them get belligerent. There is a reporting function on the listing, where you can report the item, but ebay typically ignores these.

Why waste the time?

Most of the people selling these fake signatures are well aware of their actions. No point in telling them what they already know. And eBay could care less as long as they get their cut.
