Tim, why don't you ask Autographs99 about it? Ask him if he has taken proof photos down after the photographer contacted him because they were theirs.
This isn't jealousy on anyone's part. It's material when you're talking about autographs, because when most customers see a photo of a celeb signing alone with a listing, especially with the listing saying there's proof, they naturally assume it's from when the autograph they're considering was signed.
American Royal Arts used altered photos of musicians signing to sell millions in forgeries:

And again, I don't know if the ones in this listing were from when the ones he's offering were sighed or not. And I'm not questioning authenticity of the autographs. I haven't even checked.
As for the photographer protecting his images, that's what he was doing. Putting your watermark on a photograph is unsightly, especially if they put it where it can't be trimmed off. That's why you almost never see that done on professional websites. What photographers often do is run a reverse search of their images to make sure no one is using them without their approval and handle it if they find violations.
