That is actually a trick question. The signature is real....or at least there is one out there somewhere that was the basis for his Preprinted autograph photo that his mail agency sends out when they get autograph requests.

The signature is part of the photograph in this case.

Thanks Pete! So much for that sellers credibility...

This is an exact quote from his auction description: "I can guarantee that it is real because I got it from him personally"... :-(

It's a seller here in Sweden, on a site called Tradera. The auction ended a few hours ago with a winning bid of $75. I will see what I can do, but Tradera is as bad (if not worse) than eBay when it comes to "fighting" fakes... :-(

From a semantic perspective, this is an interesting dilemma.

The statement is deceitful, but necessarily false.

"Personally", by definition, doesn't necessarily mean "in person", though I'm sure that's what you're meant to think. Similarly, in this hobby, real doesn't always mean authentic and neither need to be synonymous with "hand signed", though, again, I'm sure you're meant to believe that here.

I'm sure we're all familiar with the trick of "this is a hand signed autograph, I just didn't say by whose hand".

Of course, those are purely semantics, and what these people don't realize is that playing word games like that with this intent still constitutes fraud, so why they go to all that trouble instead of just flat out lying is beyond me.
