Classic secretarial exemplar. Still a pretty piece!
Is that live ink? If you take the message on the Reverse literally this is not hand signed. I would rule out a facsimile.
Not sure if it´s live ink. If you hold it against the light it seems like it is handwritten. Does anyone know something about this stamp?
If hand signed the ink will be visible in the direct glare of a strong light - if the signature disappears into the photo it is a preprint of some sort. Live ink should rest on top of this glossy(?) yet screened image, and look and reflect differently than the photo surface. Is this a matte finished postcard? I don't think it is a stamp as it does not have those characteristics. The first portion of your scan, when enlarged, gives the impression the signature is also screened but I can't tell from here.
It seems to be handwritten. But it is very difficult to see. And yses, it´s a matte finished postcard.
Concerning the stamp, I thought about the postage stamp. This stamp is quite old, right? I´m from Germany and not an expert in American postage stamps ;)
The stamp is a 1 1/2 cent cancelled Martha Washington stamp from the Presidential series, introduced in 1938 and in use until the 1950's. It might be worth up to a dollar or so.
PS - I am NOT a stamp collector. I was just trying to answer your question.
Thanks Eric and of course you are not a stamp collector ;)
Is there any indentation or marks from the nib?
Yes there are some nibs, but not very deep. Don´t think that it´s written with a fountain pen. Maybe blue ink
If I understand Eddy that is not Lamarr's handwriting, whatever the nature of the ink/signature. It appears to be secretarial.
