Hello,

I obtained three signed Hemingway books from the same collection and am trying to determine if they are legitimate.  Any opinions or direction on who I should send them to would be appreciated.

Thanks,

CJ

Eddy,

You got it. I told them I had the preliminary review by Beckett stating the item is "Unlikely to pass full authentication".  The credit card rep didn't think that wording was strong enough to merit the return of the payment.  I said I world have the book examined for authentication and he asked can the authenticating agency provide a letter stating their qualifications?  Your link fits the bill perfectly.  Thanks,

You're very welcome, CJ.  It certainly says very clearly that Beckett is amongst the recognized professionals on the eBay platform.  That seems to be the first hurdle cleared.

I'm wondering if the cc company will require the full submission or not or if the online signature review will suffice?   It almost seemed like the cc company rep was more concerned about Beckett's qualifications overall.   Kind of wondering if they even know the difference between the preliminary signature review and full submission?

I'm pulling for you to prevail!  :-)

Hello,

I'd like to thank everyone here for their support and rapid identification of the legitimate signatures.  I won the credit card dispute for the first book.  Now all three books have been refunded, but that is not enough.  I've taken screen shots of all the fake Hemingway this seller has sold and duplicates from this seller's ebay page (Rowling and Stephen King) and another page they are using and I am considering my next move concerning law enforcement.  Now that I am more diligent, it is amazing the number of fakes for sale. I recently identified a Hemingway fake for sale for $6500.  This has to be organized.  I have sent the duplicate images to ebay and pointed them out on numerous phone calls, but they have taken no action.  At some point it would seem they become complicit in this fraud, but maybe I am too much of an idealist. Again, many thanks.

Most welcome. Glad to help. To me, price was the biggest indicator here to a new collector. That serves as a red flag before you even see the "autographs."

Thanks for the update, CJ.   I'm glad you prevailed!

A few of us in the vintage film autograph collecting community continue tracking some similar material like the ones I referenced upthread.  Unfortunately, these platforms (eBay, Etsy, etc.) can be rife with forgeries and it's not getting any better....even with collectors reporting the material.
