I just looked at it a few minutes ago. I will say this it is not one I would want in my collection.
Saw your earlier post with your McNear and can see some of the distinctions. Did he sign differently (if at all) after his stroke?
How much would a legit McNear signature on a cut / album page go for in your opinion? Not a TAGS collector, but seeing that auction made me curious to learn more. Thanks. Certainly welcome any other opinions.
In general, I like TAGS very much, but it's amusing how many of the cast members (Andy, Aunt Bee, Floyd) were jerks on the set.
Hi there Allen: In my opinion, a post-stroke autograph would have to have extremely good provenance for me to be interested in it. I do not believe there are many of those out there. Howard McNear is the most expensive autograph in my collection (though not the most valuable). The McNear in question sold for about $412. A genuine one for that would be a bargain in my humble opinion. This is a link to my answering a question Steve Z. asked about the most expensive autographs in our collection: What is the most cash you've ever spent on a single autograph? Uplo...
That McNear is no good. I have 2 post stroke sigs that are absolutely good for comparison. I have a hand written letter on his stationery with the self addressed stamped envelope it was mailed in. This one is a forgery.
Guys….as crazy as this sounds I will not comment specifically on why the eBay McNear is a clear forgery. Reason being IF the forger reads this post they now are armed with information to forge even better McNears and rob people further.
That is not crazy at all. I used to go into more detail about things but stopped. Your McNear letter is great and you are fortunate to have it. I have a handwritten letter from Frances Bavier on her stationary that mentions her Emmy and upcoming retirement. That is also in red ballpoint. I prefer letters, documents, and even checks to photographs, but I am in the minority on that. I also prefer things be inscribed and not just a name.
Understandable. Many experts on specific autographs take this approach. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This McNear in the OP is definitely not real IMO.
