I'm a newbie, have question about My Paul McCartney autograph with Smiley face.

Hi All,
Just found this website and I'm hoping to get some help on my  autograph from Sir Paul.
I used to work at JFK airport in the late 70's early 80's where I obtained a few celebrity autographs during that time but my most prized is the one Paul gave me in (I think, October) 1984.
I hate to have to sell it, but I had to take early retirement and things are tight around here.
Someone offered my $800.00 a few years ago, but I didn't think that was a good price.
Here's a pic.
I would appreciate any opinions or advice and thanks in advance.
Eileen

To all interested parties.  I thank you for all of your offers and for all of your input on this autograph.
After putting alot of thought into selling this  I've decided to use ebay.  I do alot of selling and some buying on ebay and it's really the easiest and safest way I can think of to do this.
It will be going up tomorrow night Feb.10 2013 at 7:00pm ET. It will be auction style starting at $1200.00.
That may sound high to some of you, but that's the minimum it's worth to me. (Actually I think it's priceless).

My ebay ID is Taffyb002.

That's probably the best decision Eileen, but I'd like to post something up for EVERYONE ELSE on this site.

Something kinda bothers me when somebody just jumps on here, because they have an Elvis signature that their grandmother owned who just died, and they want to know if it's real and what it's worth. The ONLY REASON I haven't called people out sooner on this practice is, we seem to get a lot of interesting threads going about said piece.

Yet here's what irks me. If "newbies" as Eileen called herself, do this -- I think SHE OWES IT TO US, to entertain the best offer from the folks on this site. Now, if the person that wanted to buy it offered her only $300, then she could say "That's a little low." It sounded like he was going to give ballpark, what it was worth. I think that person should've been the one to get this.

I think, in the future, we should all just try to boycott (sort of), people that just come on with an autograph they want to know the value of. Now I don't mean Eileen as much, because at least she had a few interesting things to say, and the thread was somewhat fun.

Opinions on that?

Also, the "sketch" McCartney did is fairly common on his signature. I'm going to do a blog about that in a few days.

I was kind of thinking the same

+1

By the way Josh, I DID post something for everyone here right on this discussion.  AFTER I let the others know by private message.  Thought I would give them the first heads up. Was that not the correct thing to do?

I am new to this fantastic site and used it to get opinions about three Beatles autographs I was considering buying. The comments were extremely helpful and I bought them, they were duly authenticated by Perry Cox and I was delighted. I was one of the people who expressed an interest in this McCartney autograph and mailed Eileen indicating my interest. I received two emails from her. The first said she was concerned about customs charges if she sent to the UK. The second informed me that the item was going on Ebay. I was very disappointed in that and felt that she could have said to people on here "I now know it's worth £500, would someone be prepared to pay this". I feel that she generated interest on here and then decided to sell elsewhere. However, Eileen is perfectly entitled to do as she pleases with the autograph as it's hers. I do however feel that the good people on here have been used as a consultancy tol and then discarded. I thanks those who have helped me and feel lucky to have discovered such a warm and friendly place.

Wow, I didn't know I was breaking protocol by not taking your offers.
Maybe that should be posted as a policy on the top of this forum so newbies like me know up front, if we ask an opinion, we must sell it to the first offer.
But I thought that's what the "Buy, Sell, and Trade" forum was for.
I'm only selling this out of absolute necessity.  I don't want to sell it.  As I said this will break my heart.
I want to get the best price I can if I'm going to give it up and since it's still mine and not the property of this forum,  Paul and Josh, I'll do it the best and safest way I can think of.
What makes you think both of you were the first offers anyway, that's what makes this a little laughable to me.
I never mentioned this but I received bogus ebay offers from unscupulous anonymous dealers.
They must think I couldn't find out who they were.  Well I did, and that's one of the reasons why I chose ebay, for it's safety.

As you said, Josh, "it's a fairly common signature" so I'm sure you'll find another one soon.
Can't wait to read your blog.  Maybe you can post some pics of the other smiley faces signatures.

To those of you that gave me your honest opinions and advice and didn't try to take advantage of me , (Spaceman, you're the best) I thank you so much.
I'm still so grateful that I found this forum and I also appreciate you all being there to vent to when ebay jerked me around.  You've all been very kind.  Thanks

There is no protocol. It's your item. Your entitled to get as much as you can for it. Just because you posted her asking for advice does not mean you are obligated take a couple hundred dollars less from a member her. Most here wouldn't accept less from you that they could get elsewhere.

The thought that something posted here should be obligated to take the best offer here is ridiculous.

EXACTLY! honestly it makes me laugh reading some of these posts.

I really don't see anything wrong with how you handled this Eileen.

I was about to comment the same. It`s your item, and to say that you have any obligation to sell it to anyone here is very strange to me...

Yeah I agree with the whole notion if you are going to ask for advice at least consider selling it here. Otherwise this site becomes a ebay spam dump with the once and a while informative topic. I am not saying you HAVE to sell it here, but people mostly come here to pimp their item with no other intention and its getting a bit annoying.

Dont be fooled most have no intention other than getting more views on their item or praying to rope in a fish that will pay more than ebay.
