Good point, JK.

Also, the letter claims the autograph came from 10841 Whipple Street:

The Whipple House – aka “Dracula House” was claimed by Lugosi as his favorite.  It was at 10841 Whipple Street in N Hwd, which he owned from 1941 until the late 1950's.

Curious.....

Would it be worthwhile getting a professional valuation? Or take it on the chin?

I just wrote that Lugosi was not even in California for the entire month of February in 1951. There is no need to waste any more money on this obvious forgery.

Anyone can look that up - just like Lugosi's whereabouts...

Anthony - I accepted your friend request.  Feel free to message now if you care to.

Late 1950's? He died in 1956. He died at 5620 Harold Way, in his home.

Actually, that little blurb that I cut and pasted apparently was even more way off.   The Whipple address looks to have been his residence only during the better part of the 40s---and not into the 50s at all:

The bottom line seems that the writer of the accompanying letter is....to say the least....a bit off as well.

Lugosi was on the east coast for all of February 1951. So there's the additional reveal, apart from the very poor forgery

The (false) claim was that is was "signed" 72 years ago - a second hand anecdote was the best scenario.

Lugosi left California to tour the east coast with a horror and magic show, playing Jamaica, NY on January 1st 1951 and was gone until at least the middle of March. The letter cannot have been signed as claimed, and as the "autograph" shows.

Here is a poster for this 1951 east coast tour:

Lugosi's UK tour was from April 30th to October, and he returned to the US on a Cunard liner in December, where he was interviewed by The Ship's Reporter on the 11th. He then returned to the east coast as the poster below shows:

.

The last recorded date for the east coast tour prior to the UK tour in April was at The National in Richmond on March 21st as this poster shows:
