Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get some opinions on this great piece. It belonged to my late father. It's a vintage one-sheet poster from 1962's Safe At Home that appears to be signed by Mickey Mantle. I'm no expert in Mantle sigs but after looking at some genuine examples, it looks pretty good. However, this could just be wishful thinking on my part. What do you think? Genuine or not?

I’m no expert but it looks spot on to me

In fact I say it looks beautiful but I’m sure others that have a bit  more knowledge will be a bit more helpful.

See, I thought so too. I contacted a local expert (former sports reporter and sports museum curator, who actually knew Mantle) to ask his opinion. I sent him the photos and he called me to say, "well, it could be real, probably fake, it would cost a ton to get it authenticated, tell you what, I'll give you $250 to take it off your hands." I thought that was a bit quick, so I politely declined and figured I'd keep checking...

I’m not sure what cost a ton in his mind is but I can tell you it will cost $100

also Beckett authentication quick review will only cost you $10

The quick review is just that a very quick look at it, they will email you within a few days to say unlikely to pass full authentication or likely to pass full authentication, but it will only cost $10

Oh, that's cool. It would definitely be worth $10! I appreciate the info!

No problem at all, glad you should it to us

Why the heck would he buy it if he thought it was fake lol

Glad you held on to it

Hope I helped a little

it’s a beautiful piece

Randy,

We have some top-notch Mickey Mantle collectors here, better than me, who will no doubt give their opinions, but I agree with Ru007. I have no doubt that it's genuine. Nice piece.

Is it 27x40 inches? These have sold at auction from about $700 to $1,500+ as I recall. If you sell on eBay, I'd consider getting it fully authenticated by PSA/DNA or Beckett (BAS) and selling it yourself. PSA charges $100 and you get a full letter of authentication (LOA). BAS's price is probably similar and they are new and sometimes have good specials.

I wouldn't consign this to a regular auction because you can easily sell it yourself and only sell it at a price you're comfortable with.

Thanks greatly! It is 27x40. The poster alone (without any signature) is quite valuable, going for between $500-$700.

You're right, the poster is valuable. Signed versions come on the market tho and sell at auction in the range I mentioned.

This is a beautiful, authentic Mantle signature.  No need to spend extra money.
