I have been offered an album supposedly signed backstage by all The Doors band at a concert in June 1969. It comes along with a lot of memorabilia like the concert ticket stub, concert brochure, backstage pass. It would be awesome if it’s real but I’m not sure so I’m asking for opinions here. The story seems legit but I’m not sure the autographs are.
The flow in the o of Morrison starts the oposite side that most of the examples I have seen.
Here is the rest of the band:
And finally the backstage pass:
So what do you guys think???
Is it too good to be true???
Sorry about the quality of the pictures but this are the best I have from the seller.
I will really appreciate your opinions!!!
Thanks!!! I will really appreciate all the opinions in order to make a better choice!!!
Extremely low contrast - perfect feeding ground for a forger. I'd say no. The Morrison looks off.
Just some additional notes. The Soft Parade back stage pass is one of the more frequent if not the most readily available of back stage passes on the market so it in of itself might not be deal sealing provenance. Also, it might be worth trying to get some more info and pictures from the seller. I am particularly interested in the pressing of the album as I note that the cover appears laminated and I wonder how that fits with the period?. I know that first US pressings were generally not necessarily laminated and while it’s entirely possible that this was a later laminated issue within the 1969 timeframe, or from a country like the UK (was laminated), it might be an additional check for you. Finally, June 1969 was the first of concerts since the Miami cancellation some 3 months before. The Doors and Jim were generally lying low so I do wonder about accessibility in general at these return concerts. Sometimes it is the additional checks out with the autographs themselves that can aid your authenticity queries.
Thanks!!!
I appreciate your words and here is what I know.
This is supposed to come from the set of concerts in Mexico City. They were at a small venue just for 1000 to 1500 people called the Forum, they cancelled the main concert and had to do 4 or 5 small concerts instead. This was mainly due to a ban of “massive” concerts from the government since it was supposed to be at “La Plaza Mexico” which is a huge bull ring for 40000 people. It’s a pretty bizarre story about that set of concerts.
I guess it’s laminated since it’s on a Mexican record.
They tell me it comes from one of the owners of theForum where the concerts where hold.
I’m sure the ticket stub is real but I’m not sure about the autographs, LOL!!!
That’s all I have.
Here are some more pictures.
From what I'm able to see, none of the sigs look correct in my opinion. Sorry...
I really appreciate all your help and opinions!!
That’s why I’m asking here, to make a better decision.
At least I didn’t bought it!!!
I was just hoping it to be real, it would have made a “GREAT” addition to my collection!!!
I don't like it.
Thanks to everyone!!!
All your answers really helped me to get the bug out of my system. As you know sometimes we buy things trusting the good will of sellers and get something that’s not authentic. Fortunately there is forums like this that make things easier.
Specially for high end items like this in which you may spend a small fortune and you really need to be sure that you are getting something real!!!
If you ever need help with autographs from the Pro Football Hal of Fame or 49ers I will gladly help you since that the area I have more experience on.
Thanks again!!!
I really appreciate all your answers!!!
if you don’t mind me querying, what was the seller asking in terms of price?
Of course not, he originally asking for 7.5K but was willing to go down to 5k.
What do you think about that???
The reason that I asked, the asking price can also be an indicator of authenticity. Apparently there are only three known signed LPs with Morrison’s signature. A signed Morrison hotel LP with Morrison having signed the inner gatefold went for $17400 with buyers premium in 2012. That alone tells you everything.
