Hi Mark, I was hoping Josh would have commented by now. I believe he told me he saw Judith doing the dedication on some pieces and Jerry Lee signing his name. I don't know which ones but the top one you're showing might be one.

Hi Ian, The seller of that LP said that JLL wrote the inscription, and that he only saw three other people there for JLL's autograph, including his friend that he went there with.

This Jerry Lee stuff gives me a headache!

Tell me about it. Ugh. Doesn't it look like the bottom example is all from the same hand? In "Mark", the "M" extending substantially below the baseline and flourish at the end of the "K" look like JLL traits to me. I believe the flourish at the end of the "D" in "JD" in the top example is as well.

Was just talking to Josh Lasure on FB. Trying to get him to come on to tell what exactly he observed at the airport. Cant speak highly enough about Josh,he is a reat in person grapher,he just got Al Jardine today.

Early last year, I sent a couple of items for authentication by Beckett and decided to include one of the signed books to see what would happen. The result was "inconclusive", and I was told that Beckett would have to do additional research prior to rendering an opinion. I inquired again several months later and was told the result would still be "inconclusive", with the reason being that the signature contains both passable traits and traits that are of concern.

On a related note, here are a couple of LPs that recently appeared on eBay with BAS COAs:

I don’t think the second one was signed by James Whitten. Or JLL, or his wife.

The top one looks like a Whitten to me.

What do you think of them Ballroom?

Both are from the same seller, who says the top one was purchased from an in-person collector in NY at least 15 years ago. I think both were signed by JLL.

I appreciate you posting the results from Beckett Ballroom.

I have a few "Thanks" at my house.  I will check when I get home.  I do have a signed 78 here that says "Thanks".  His "T" always resembles a 2, if I remember correctly.  I would be curious to see the "Thanks" in the 2 above more closely.

Pictured is my signed 78.

Mark

No problem. I look for his "T" to have the crossbar drawn first like your example, the ones that were presented as being Whitten secretarials, and the block letter "To"s from the TTMs. That isn't always the case though. The two Whitten "To"s I've seen appear to have the crossbar drawn last.

My 'Thanks' is similar to Mark's as is the signature.  A typical IP style.

Here's one that John Shaw obtained IP in '95.
