This item is coming fresh from an estate (inherited).
The previous owner was known to have been gullible, and would purchase overpriced or non-collectible items, and consider them to be investments ...
So, his purchasing decisions were always questionable ...
So, gentlemen, I come here on behalf of my ex, to seek YOUR opinions on this ball, as I know you will give them, and it looks like a strong enough community to me, that she can take your advice and make a decision what to do with this item going forward ...

Not authentic!!!! That Mantle is laughable and the DiMaggio is slowly drawn.
The Shop At Channels back in the 1990's sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of crap.
Read this article. It is an excerpt from Operation Bullpen written by Kevin Nelson:

Here is the Mantle forgery. I wanted to post the actual photo. It's horrific at best.
Just out of curiosity, Cal, why do you think it is legit?
You're welcome, Cal. Good luck.
Fake
Cal, to be honest with you, all of us here could try to go into detail about why it is a forgery. Neither you or the inheritor of that autographed baseball would understand. It takes year to acquire a trained eye.
You wrote "Just visual comparisons SEEMING to be close, but with anomalies I've seen described elsewhere." With no disrespect intended, that says it all.
Cal Chris and others do not go into specifics so that they do not make it easy for the forgers to get on here and improve their craft. Your type of ball including the shrink wrap is specifically mentioned in the Operation Bullpen book listed above. Cal this is not a close call at all.
Sorry Cal....best piece of info I can give as a Mantle collector is those M's on this shrink wrapped ball say it all..also if you look close the slight shaking in it as well (M's)...tremors is always a dead give away on a fake...also anything from home shopping club or network from the 90's is a red flag as well...I don't think I have yet to see a HSC signed item that is authentic...as much as I loved watching that one guy get Red in the face BEEEEEE DIAAAAAAALIING !!!!!!! on Mark McGwire and the other items....I never purchased from there once...
Cal, I thought you might appreciate this not so funny trading card story about a Fake Slab PSA 1952 Topps Mantle Rookie. Not an autograph, but certainly scary to see someone getting burned for 14K plus. Here is the link http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=154363&highlight=...
I just read the link on net54...bro it looks like it is still for sale...I just found it on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-TOPPS-MICKEY-MANTLE-RC-PSA-EX-5-UP-FOR...
Yes, it is still for sale I called PSA and informed them of the phoney slab. I hope they get to this before these folks get scammed.
Horrific at best is a nice way to describe the Mantle. The pointy M's in the Mantle are just a drop dead giveaway. The Dimaggio & Williams are a cut above the usual forgeries associated with this type of signed ball imho and generally can fool some. Sadly, the Mantle is the tell tale sign of a cruel joke. Sorry, but at least now you know.
You have to believe me because I'm a Monroe Viking & CSUN Grad!!!!! (FUDD representing from Porter Ranch in the SFV!!!)
Cal, if you really want to learn about Mantle autographs, take the time to read the information contained in the below link:
