Did you acquire that from Coach's Corner?
You sure the private collector didn't buy this from coach's corner? They've sold some just like this. Cut signature on old looking paper. Had all kinds of these from every famous person imaginable over the years.
Hi Rick if so it was not revealed to me. I looked at an example from coaches corner and this one does not match their signatures. http://myccsa.com/lot/306/john-dillinger-hand-signedcertified-11x17...
They've sold quit a few Dillinger's over the years. They sold some Capone's too. Most we're on cuts just like this.
I'm just guessing because this one interests me
From what I can see, it looks slow and deliberate
By comparison, John's sigs have a vertical yet slight right forward slant and your example is totally vertical.
The "D" is especially worrisome
My biggest question is, what was this cut from? Looks like most of his sigs are either on legal documents or hand written letters.
And does this paper look like it's from the 1930's or earlier?
This is the closect example I could find for comparison (if authentic). You can see his writing is vertical yet slanted to the right
Anyway... that's my uneducated guess work
The "D" in these letters don't match the signature you posted nor does the hand writing IMO
I haven't come across any "D" that matches the crooked example of the signature. It's odd that the John seems smooth but the Dilinger is not.
Would be great to hear what others think.
Do you all feel it's a no or is there enough of a possibility to send for authentication?
My honest opinion is it's not real. The Dillinger is too far off. And the "g" does not match his handwriting either. Have a look at his handwriting... none of his g's or y's match this sig in any way
But, a "quick opinion" may be worth while.
My thoughts on it are none of the TPA's will have enough exemplars(if they really even use any) with solid provenance to authenticate this. They would be giving you opinions similar to those you would get here.
A few things on the signature that don't look natural to me. I just don't think it's authentic.
