It would indeed make a sad epitath. However, I am aware of claims that at least two autographs were signed later on December 8th 1980 for studio staff members which I am posting here.

The claims were made by an expensive sales/auction website called momentsintime (who also sold the signed Double Fantasy autograph in the original post) but I have no way of verifying exactly when they were signed in 1980.  I am a bit cynical as of course such an autograph would carry a huge premium if it was known to be his last.

I would think owning what was, or could be, his last known autograph would be cool and creepy at the same time.

The one signed :"For Ribeah" is said to have been signed for the receptionist at the Record Plant studio on December 8, 1980 at around 10:30 pm. Lennon signed it for her as he made his way back to The Dakota. He was shot at appox. 10:50 pm by Mark Chapman. This is supposed to be the last autograph that he ever signed.

Who owns it's?

As I said earlier Jim there are claims for that distinction for another signature. However all three 'last autograph' claims came from the same sale/auction site. Obviously nothing increases an autograph's value more than it being his last so I am a bit cynical about both the 'Ribeah' and the 'Karl' as they could have been signed any time in late 1980 whereas MDC's copy is as documented as it could be.

Here's the third 'final autograph ' claim; http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/arts/john-lennon-s-last-autograph-fetch...

According to Ribeah's paperwork that went with the auction...she says that she got Lennon's autograph as he was leaving the Record Plant to return to the Dakota. She says that this was appox.10:25-10:30 pm. As we know...Lennon was shot at around 10:50pm. I'll go with her's as being the last one.

I think that you might be missing my admittedly cynical point Jim; momentsintime sold MDC's Double Fantasy as John's last autograph, then they sold 'Ribeah' as John's last autograph......then they found 'Karl' and sold it as John's final autograph, do you see a pattern developing here? Maybe they will find one the Limo driver got signed just as he dropped him off at 10.50pm on 8th December next?

Obviously I do not know for sure that 'Ribeah' or 'Karl' were or were not his last autograph but I do know that a 'Ribeah' or 'Karl' signed on 8th December 1980 will be worth a lot more than one signed on 21st November even if I only have somebody's word for it. MDC's Double Fantasy at least has water tight provenance.

Karl,this is good deductive work

I would love to own one of these creepy or not!!! What nice examples
Shame it was his last

There's an autograph he signed for a girl at the studio he was leaving to go home it was signed 20 minutes before his death. I don't have a picture but I'm sure some one here has seen it.

is that pa ribeau, photo posted at beginning of this thread?

I didn't see that I was looking at Beatle autographs when I replied. The Ribeau is the one I saw years ago at that time she wanted 80k for it. She had all the paperwork that was done by her lawyer in New York in late Dec.1980.
