My mother collected autographs for her 4H project when she was a kid and then continued on as she grew up. I will be posting a bunch of autographs if you all don't mind.

This is the back of a photo and written to my mom directly.  As you can see, her name was Marilyn.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

I can't tell you how much I hate to say it but that's definitely not John Wayne in my opinion. If it came through John Wayne's office, management or a studio, it's secretarial: signed by someone approved by Wayne to sign autographs in his name.

I'm so sorry.

You can see a selection of genuine John Wayne autographs here: https://www.psacard.com/autographfacts/entertainment/john-wayne/205

Regarding some of the autographs, I noticed one of the letters had the initials "JW/ps" at the bottom. Do you think that stands for 'press secretary' or 'private secretary' ?

It’s more likely to be the initials of the person who typed the letter.

Steve, this is where I show my "noobness".   I see specific traits in this signature that I see in some of the genuine ones.  That "W" with the skinny first u and the fatter second u .

Do secretarial autographs tend to be "very similar" to a genuine autographs, or have a life of their own?

Thanks

Here is an example of an authentic John Wayne signature. You should be able to clearly see some significant differences in yours and this one.

I thought the unusual 'g' was very similar to the genuine ones.

Here you go. This is a typical "Good Luck" John Wayne signature. The OP signature was not signed by John personally. Notice the pattern of the "o"s.

Ok so now I see his style. It was pretty messy.

OK So I found a definitely genuine one.

What's My Line ?

it's at the 19 minute mark.

Im looking at this one from PSA... Im looking at "Good Luck" also.   Not close enough?

This isn't a less stressed day for John, more time to write slower? :)

The one below is not mine..it's from PSA.

Thanks

Again, look closely at the pattern of the "o"s. The PSA example is authentic.
