John Wayne authenticity opinions

Hello Everyone,

I have in my possession a signed letter from John Wayne to my grandfather dated from 1968. Evidently, John Wayne was shooting True Grit as the letter was from Ouray, Colorado. Can someone give me their opinion as to whether this appears genuine and, if so, who might be a good source to sell it? It has no sentimental value to me, but I have bills to pay.

This appears to be signed by The Duke. There is a free buy, sell, or trade group on this site. Might want to give it a try.

John Wayne has solid value but I've seen some crazy high prices on him as well. I would think it is reasonably worth in the $1,000 range. Possibly $1,000 or best offer if you are looking for a faster sell. Others may chime in the their thoughts as well.

Look at that! I was typing my answer out and just saw Joe's estimate. Looks like $1,000-ish is the right range.

It's not the typical stylish John Wayne signature, but I think Joe is probably right. Please wait for some more opinions before you offer it for sale, just to make sure it's not secretarial.

If it's real and on Wayne's regular letterhead (is it cream color?), I think it would bring from about $900-$1,500 at a good auction. If you sell it to a collector yourself, about $1,000 would be a good deal for both of you.

I agree the signature is a bit different. I like "John" and only think the "n" in Wayne is a bit neater than usual. Did find a PSA example which matched it well. Not a usual secretarial signature. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

It is on cream color paper and the postmark on the envelope is from Ouray, Colorado dated October 13, 1968. Asking $900 as we need to move it to pay a bunch of medical bills.

Tom, take a large, full color scan and send it to me for cropping if you want. Color will help...a lot. You can PM me without having to friend me.

$900 is a very reasonable price, whether it sells here or not.
