It does seem like the indie bookstores in Canada share a “Bookmanager” database. This could help with allocation of books as well as keeping people from ordering multiple copies.
Ordering the Kate book from most stores requires creating an account (no guest checkout). They might cancel multiple orders.

How much do they charge for shipping to Europe?
