Can a laser printed autographed picture be authenticated?? Is it worth getting something with a laser printed signature??
Hi Dawn,
A laser printed signature cannot be authenticated.
New technology, same issues as always. Pre-prints, rubber stamps, autopens, now laser printed (overtaking autopens from politicians, by the way).
Knowledge, close inspection.
I've started using a fountain pen to sign letters. It looks very distinctive, and is hard to replicate, although that is not really a consideration for my signature.
Paul, an interesting topic…8 plus years ago when I was flying to the the west coast for autographs at least 4 times a year for autographs, one of my trusted runners (in person collectors) sold me 2 multi signed 8x10 autographs on laser photo paper. When I questioned him about it, he told me some of the runners were getting the signatures first then printing a photo on top of the signature…..mine were signed but not printed on top of……My thoughts…..I have never seen a signed photo that was then printed with a image on top of it…..I will tell you that I always carried a 10x powered jewelers loupe to see ink overlaps and dot printed autographs…..just saying…my experience.
David, you meant inkjet, right? Not laser. I started hearing about a lot of that, too, starting around 2008. Doesn't seem truly honest to me.
Mr. Cyrkin, I used a 10x powered jewelers loupe to see the dots in inkjet printers and also the overlaps in sharpie signatures. The runners talked about the autograph.that the photo was printed on top of, at least two of us heard about it….Give me some time and I can show you an Ozzie Osborn 4x family photo signed on photo paper that an image …….was not printed an image on top of…….In a nice way…you knocked me on my Patrick Henry a while back…..did you ever come to a conclusion.?
David,
I’m not doubting you on what you’re describing. I’m Judy saying that the printed-over signed blanks I’ve seen were on inkjet photo paper, not laser photo paper.
