Looking to purchase an item with a Leaf COA.  I called Leaf directly to get more clarity on what goes into their COA.  I was told that they are the opposite of PSA and they will only give a COA if the signature is witnessed by a Leaf Rep.

With that said the item is being sold by Probstein123 which does not have a stellar reputation on this forum.

Any advise on if the Leaf COA trumps the actual seller?

Depends if Leaf actually do as they say they do - if so, then one must assume the item is real.

However, if there is any dispute with the seller, I would give it a miss as it would make me nervous about other items in their collection that could equally turn out to be forgeries.

What you find with sellers is they sell forgeries and genuine items at times, then there are just plain sellers of forgeries and just dealers who sell legitimate items, so its a minefield and its also knowing which sellers are good, too.

For me, should you have the slightest doubt, move on but nevertheless, always ask questions and if anything raises the red flag, that's the impetus you need to avoid.

Sports related item?

Movie Actor

I believe Leaf certed items are genuine and witnessed. I have a number of them... all sports related and all genuine.

That said, I have not seen them associated with entertainment celebrities. It may very well be okay, but given the amount of counterfeit holograms we have seen lately, I would confirm with Leaf they issued holograms for the celebrity in question.

Thanks Steve.

It's worth mentioning that the item number on the hologram checks out in the leaf data base.
As a final check feel free to share a pic of the signed item, but if it is a legit leaf coa, I think you are good to go. Regards.

Not a signature I would venture to offer an opinion. I believe Pacino did a private signing last year... I wonder if this was part of it and Leaf witnessed. Or maybe he has done other signings as well.

The COA does not indicate witnessed. Which begs the question, did they authenticate this as a third party, or witness it? I was under impression they were a first party certification, like TriStar or Steiner, but I could be mistaken. I would ask them.

In my opinion, a "signature" like this cannot be reliably authenticated by signature analysis alone. It really comes down to trusting the source.

Sorry to raise more questions than answers!

Al Pacino did sign for Leaf products in 2013- he has autograph cards in card products, this could have been a redemption prize.
