Here is a very weird item listed by eBay seller ctcardshows

This Mantle is a no question forgery, and I am not particularly fond of this Mattingly approval from JSA to begin with.

Take a look at this, a 1987 program "signed" by Don Mattingly and Mickey Mantle. This Mantle is a 100% forgery.

This item is accompanied by a JSA LOA, however when you look closely, the LOA is just for the Mattingly signature, and specifically states "1 signature", with a submission date of August 17, 2014. Yet the Mantle forgery is what is photographed on the LOA?

The LOA also states the 1 signature (Mattingly) is signed in blue ball-point pen, which is also incorrect, as this is clearly a blue sharpie. What is going on here? It is clear the Mantle was added after submission, however why is the Mantle photographed on the LOA? Is JSA this careless, or is this a manipulated copy?

Update:

JSA re-issued the LOA, and indeed did add Mantle to it (and corrected the writing instrument). Congrats JSA, you have certified an obvious Mantle forgery and now have it displayed proudly on your website:

They are no better than GA anymore. They seem to be passing off a lot of forgeries lately. Just another reason why you buy the signature, not the sticker.

This sold last night for $151.66 Once again, congrats JSA on this pathetic certification.

Something about that signature looks good to me. Maybe Mantle signed on a bad day?

It's a 100% forgery John. PSA/DNA would not pass this, and I know for a fact JSA is aware of this style of forgery as well, which is what makes it even shadier that they passed it. Several things off which I will not mention, but it is clearly a forgery to those who know Mantle's signature well. It's also clearly "drawn".

you're right John, "something looks good to me". ...but the "Maybe Mantle signed on a bad day" is the MOST Ludicrous assessment that made me spit my coffee in hysterics...LOL

Wouldn't ya think that forgeries are designed to have "SOMETHING" that looks good?

Fact is, it's a MESS. It's a pathetic forgery made by a cheater Fer on a bad day. Nice job JSA, keep up the good work imbeciles.

It seems this was first authenticated at a "show". My question is, at these "shows" how many JSA authenticators are there?

Does JSA send 2-3 people out that are supposed to know every autograph that is placed in front of them and hand out LOA's left and right? Obviously at a show JSA would not have the luxury of "time" to study and genuinely examine the autograph in front of them. I would assume the person submitting expects it back fairly quickly. (Hour or so? Obviously before they leave the show?) Anyone have any info on this to share? This is a "quick buck" practice that needs to stop.

Hell I'll go sit at a booth and give my "gut feeling" on autographs all day if JSA will pay me! Sounds like a good gig!

It depends on the show and how many submissions they've received.

If it is a basic cert & sticker, then any of the people there can do it.  From the shows I've attended, it's typically 3 guys, some more knowledgable than others.  If it's for a Full LOA, then you will receive your item back, and the LOA comes in the mail after it can be signed and notarized...

Sometimes,  Jimmy Spence is there.  When he's there, they have the printer, a notary and you can get your full LOA within a couple hours...

Either way, the guys are just comparing your autograph to pictures from their exemplar database on their laptops....nothing more than that.

What a joke. 3 guys to know every autograph in the world. Let's go set up a booth next show, $50 to authenticate any sig in the world. Don't worry, I'll have my laptop and Google ready for us. A joke of a scam.

Congrats JSA, you now have a pretty obvious Mickey Mantle forgery in your database. No excuse on this one, this is exactly why I will never waste $1 on "Authentication":

Look what has popped back up on eBay, this time being listed by eBay seller franksa9
