A local church is having a charity auction this weekend. The big item up for grabs is a guitar signed Paul McCartney. After reading the thread about bad items ending up in charity auctions and knowing zero about Beatle related items, I humbly ask for opinions on this one.

If questionable, I'll email the church to find out who supplied the items and the COAs. Other items for auction are a Sly Stallone signed boxing glove, and signed photos of John Glen, Mickey Mantle, and Charlton Heston.

Thank you!

And let's do this, folks. EVERY TIME we hear about a church or charity dealing with these, let's notify them. And we'll show them links to this, and my previous blog about Anthony Nurse/Charity Fundraising Packages. Let that charity know, they've been alerted, and if they STILL sell the items, it won't come back to Nurse and his forgery crew. It will be ALL ON THEM, because they had been warned. And they'll be the ones stuck having to fork over a refund.

Brian...

You saved the day!

The church pulled the 5 items from CharityGROW, because they're now convinced they're all forgeries.

And get this: John Reznikoff from University Archives read your discussion and the article in the NewTimes newspaper and donated outright Shaq and Whitey Ford signed jerseys, a print and $300 in gift certificates to local restaurants to the church. John bought the jerseys PSA/DNA precertified from RRAuction.

Here's a pic:

Brian, you told me you were going to send a signed photo to the church, too, which is really generous of you. I'll send them something, too...PSA or JSA. They were totally screwed over by CharityGrow, and could have left the forgeries in the auction, like many non-profits have done. But they did the right thing and pulled the lots, so let's thank them with our support.

Good job, Brian.

And Josh...good job by you. Your blog on Anthony Nurse has really made a difference.

Thanks

John - you are a very generous man! Thank you!

Honestly, I think we all saved the day. I was having a hard time convincing the church strange things were afoot. Everyone's opinion helped and a huge thank you to you, Steve, and John and Roger for getting involved.  I think that made all the difference. And of course, Josh and everyone else on the Autograph Store thread.

A very proud day for the Autograph Magazine family,  I'd say.

WOW. Nice job by all of you. Very generous on John's part. Class act.

Can we get an AAAAAAAMEN!  :))  Great job by you Brian for coming in and really putting your heart into showing them the kind of mess they could end up in with the items from that Charity function.  And what a great crew of people we have here.  Nobody wants to see the church and the prospective buyers become victims of this stuff. :)  WTG!  High five to you all!

Steve,

Just curious - You mentioned "Charity WORKS" a few times. Are they another branch in the "Charity GROW" family tree? Charity Works is in the same business of consigning to fundraisers. But, I hadn't heard that name in my conversations with the church.

Plenty of low-res phots on their site if anyone wants to dig in...

Brian,

I'm glad you caught that. It's Charity Grow. I'll change that now. Thanks

Just as a point of clarity...AutographPros.com created a program called Charity Works which does fundraising for charities.  We'll be doing one tomorrow for Autism in Hartford, CT.  We have no connection or affiliation and only a horrible sadness for Autograph Store, Anthony Nurse, and Charity Grow as they are reportedly conning countless charities and donors and when this goes public, the negative affect of even just one donor stopping to donate to that charity is devastating.

Great job guys!!

Mark

Thats great news and good to see the church really cares about the auction and the possible bidders. And really cool to see they got those jerseys now!

Its good to know they learned something and they know we are just looking out for them not trying to destroy anyone as the scammers love to paint us as doing. If in the future advice is needed on if an item is authentic we are here to help. While "faceless" we want to help others with our knowledge of autographs. The only people who don't like our opinions are usually the ones who have something to hide or are in denial.

In the future for your auctions stick to Steiner, JSA, or PSA (Avoid ace, ga, gai) and you should be ok. While every one does make mistakes here and there at least you did what you could. As for the other company its clear what they are up to.

Great job to everyone that reached out to the Church. Here is a link to the follow up article which stated that Roger also was in touch with the church.

Thanks for the link to the newspaper article, Jason. They published a followup today:
