On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

Face, I totally understand your point and it is a good one - even a smoking gun, if it is the same jumpsuit.
How can we establish that important fact?! We need to know who is behind the buying & selling of it at Gotta Have It and Julien's. Is that considered confidential or public information? Do you know Steve or M. Frost ?

If it is the same jumpsuit, meaning it was signed after MJ died, then it is likely all other MJ signatures in same Julien's auction are forgeries to.

Face, if the jumpsuit was bought from Gotta Have It by a collector for $16,500, how does Bush have it to consign to Julien's now. I'm missing that connection.

Sandy,

The names of consignors are generally not released by an auction house. The same with the names of buyers. If someone chooses to make their name public, that's a different story.

I haven't asked, but it's fairly obvious to me that the consignors of these items to both auction houses were Tompkins and Bush.

And so why do They have items from an era they didnt even work for Michael? Because he was caretaker of Michaels wardrobe, not the owner and he has just decided he should be able to do with everything whatever he wants. What does the estate say about the signatures.  I havnt heard any response from family? They know his signature. I can imagine they dont know what to do, as they are always turned into the bad guys.

It is a VERY, VERY, VERY valid topic. In fact, it could uncover multiple levels of fraud. The issue is that this auction is set to start in just a few days. Handwriting analysis from professional autograph authenticators is a science. We have enough time for science to make in impact on this auction to protect people from potential fraud. We don't have time to track down the right people to determine how many of each costume was made. Don't get me wrong... I am very concerned about that topic as well as I bought a "duplicate" MJ item from Juliens earlier this year. So would love the investigation to continue... but first thing first.

Same jumpsuit, different jumpsuit.  Either way, Michael's signature is forged, badly.

Sandy, if we talk about the sale of the JUMPSUIT, then we have to talk of all the 8 other outfits that I mentioned.

The other outfits were sold in that same Auction and then RE-Sold at Julien's... JUMPSUIT "SIGNED" included!

I am not saying it is BUSH, but that Indian Tunique belonged to that auction and to BUSH!

But I'm off-topic here, I'm talking too much about clothes and not about Autographs...
Steve did you know that Tompkins and Bush did not start working for Michael Jackson until 1986 for the Disney film Captain EO.
Victory Tour was in 1984 and Bill Whitten was the costume designer, not Bush & Tompkins.
So why on earth Bush has Victory Tour costumes he did not make with forged MJ signatures is beyond me.

No, Sandy, I didn't know that. I assumed they overlapped with Whitten. I agree, it's odd to me that Bush has costumes they didn't design, but I'm not up on MJ history. I never heard of Tompkins and Bush until less than two weeks ago.

Steve, Sandy Several of Michael’s iconic, military-inspired costumes, as seen in both the Dangerous and HIStory tours, were Versace creations. Michael also liked his women in Versace: http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2009/07/why-donatella-versac... not Bush, yet Bush had them in his book, and they are up for sale to. See photo album here, how dare Bush scribble all over this helmet,,   https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152266330660346&set=a...

Yes, sorry TM - I didn't realize that was on TeamMichael and I posted a photo compare I made showing that fact here earlier today.

Versace? Well that debate is finally over. I like mine in 600 thread count Egyptian cotton.
Face, I get you regarding the 8 other outfits from the same auction and the jumpsuit...

I disagree with those that are saying it is irrelevant.

That is the best hope we have of PROVING that a signature is fake.
Julien's is not taking us seriously because authenticators/fans think they are fake.
We may be able to prove the jumpsuit.

Can we find out who bought the jumpsuit from Gotta Have It and ask if they still have it?
Pose as a collector who wants to purchase it maybe...
If they still have it then its not the same as Julien's one. If they don't still have it...

TOO COINCIDENTAL that these 8 items from Gotta Have It turned up at Julien's.
HEAR YOU & AGREE!
