On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

Brandon,

Does it say the estate is involved in the auction? I thought that it was all Michael Bush's consignments and a portion of the proceeds went to a charity or two.

I've heard that Michael Jackson's estate has a strong relationship with Julien's Auctions, but I didn't hear that from his estate or Julien's. I'm sure other can shed more light on your questions.

I saw that on either somewhere here or on one of links provided in this thread. I can't remember but the connection was made somewhere. I remember the comments were attaching the estate in some capacity.

Maybe the person who posted the connection knows more. Especially regarding the museum ideas.

Ahh great question Brandon.  John Branca Co-executor of the Jackson estate wrote the forward to Michael Lee Bush's new book he's been hocking about the very clothing of MJ's we've been discussing here. This book is being cross promoted and sold directly through Darren at Julien's:

At approximately 3:35 in this video MLB mentions the estate:

Hang on, there's more info I will pass along.....

YOU ASKED ABOUT MICHAEL'S CHILDREN and IF THEY WOULD RECEIVE ANY OF THIS MONEY:

June 2010 - "Billboard estimates that MJ Inc. has generated at least $1 billion in revenue in the year following his death."

So Billboard estimated $1BILLION (at least) in 1 year since death.

http://www.billboard.com/news/how-michael-jackson-made-1-billion-si...

In September 2011 - After questions had been repeatedly raised (not by the media) regarding allocations, the "estate" stated they were distributing a preliminary payment of $30 million to Jackson's mother and children, and to unnamed charities... indicated that the $30 million was a preliminary distribution to the trust and more would be forthcoming in the future.

Note: "Estate" claims $310M in 2 years.

In September 2012 - JACKSON CHILDREN'S TRUST REMAINS EMPTY.  After this story broke the "estate" released this to the media:  It was stated that "lawyers and accountants believe it could take years before they’re able to sort through all of Jackson’s debts"  (Ahh. All those "complicated debts" that lawyer Branca and Co. can't get a handle on...)

Note: "Estate" claims "nearly" $600M in 3 years.

AND COINCIDENTLY JUST 4 DAYS AGO:

My opinion (but it's a fact): This is one of several fake MJ fansites like the Iconic Magazine is an MJ "fan mag".  They post all "official estate statements and promote all official estate releases.

This was just posted on their (MJ Star) site on Nov 23, 2012 - 4 days after Steve so brilliantly and gallantly began this discussion.  SO. With all eyes on them...  PUFF!  Debt gone.

(Until the eyes of the world look away again).

Sorry Steve, but I was asked.

It seems that there are way too many people still trying to get a part of "empire".

You said it Brandon.

Hey, I want to try to answer your specific question about the museum. Here you go:

Email received from the Official Estate controlled MichaelJackson.com (MJOnlineTeam)

Dear Wendy:

Alicia here, of the MJ Online Team. We are working for the Michael Jackson Estate, reporting to Co-Executor John Branca directly, and we have been brought on to help the Estate communicate with the fans more effectively – please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions for the Estate in the future! Mr. Branca forwarded your email and asked that we respond on the Estate's behalf.

We can assure you that the Estate recognizes the importance and sentimental value of these items to the fan community. However, the items being sold do not belong to the Estate. They are the property of the people who are offering them up for auction, and as such, the Estate is not in a position to stop the sale of the items. Rest assured that NONE of the Michael Jackson items auctioned since Michael’s passing came from the Estate; the Estate maintains close control of all Michael's costumes, etc., in its possession, and will NOT sell them.

Michael Jackson was always giving items to friends, fans, sick children he visited and others he met throughout his life but all of his fans can rest assured that while the Estate may not own every single item ever worn by Michael - as a result of Michael's own generosity - the Estate does have more than enough costumes and fashion accessories, along with all Michael's other possessions, to enable us to create a museum/exhibition for fans to enjoy and to honor Michael appropriately. Although it is premature to do so now, the Estate looks forward to sharing those plans with fans in the future.

For fans specifically concerned about the costumes scheduled for auction by Michael Bush, we are pleased to let you know that Michael Bush agreed with the Estate that some of the most iconic pieces needed to be preserved as part of Michael’s legacy and, following the conclusion of the exhibition he organized, those items will be delivered to the Estate. The following is the statement recently posted by Mr. Bush on his Facebook page:

“Friends, I have been profoundly touched by the outpouring of love and admiration for Michael Jackson that I have been able to witness during the launch of the book King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson. The book features the many fashions of Michael Jackson that I had the great pleasure of working on or creating during my almost 25 years of working with the greatest entertainer of all time. Although some of the items that Dennis and I have collected over the years will be auctioned by Julien’s Auctions on Sunday, December 2nd at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, I have decided to gift several of the costumes originally marked for auction to the Estate of Michael Jackson so that they can be preserved by the Estate as part of Michael’s legacy for many years to come. I recognize the historical significance of these costumes and even though some of them were personalized and gifted to me by Michael Jackson, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to share these items with the fans with the recent exhibitions and some of the items are to be part of the permanent collection of the Estate.” - Michael Bush, fashion designer and author of The King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson.

Thank you for your support and for reaching out with your concerns. We appreciate your help in providing accurate information to the fan community.

We would kindly ask that you communicate through us (the MJ Online Team) only from this point forward. As you can imagine, the executors and the other folks who work on Estate affairs are deluged with business matters, and they have specifically asked us to handle online communications with the fans for the Estate. They have also specifically requested that any email and other similar communications for them come to us directly, so that the Estate may keep email and other channels open for their heavy overflow. Any questions you have can be sent to us, and you can be assured that we relay everything on to them.

It’s critical to Michael’s continuing legacy that he have people like you in his corner, supporting the Estate as they work to continue to share Michael’s music with future generations.

Sincerely,
Alicia

13 DAYS LATER:

November 28, 2012

Excerpt from statement on Julien's FB: Iconic Magazine (my opinion, but it’s true) one of the many operative fan outlets working for the estate and promotion of all things estate - a.k.a. official estate products, events and releases in Michael Jackson's name.

"Museums have rejected these items numerous times over and the prospect of placing these items in a permanent residency would be a costly and strenuous affair that no individual could take on alone."

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSEUM?

“Michael Jackson was always giving items to friends, fans, sick children he visited and others he met throughout his life but all of his fans can rest assured that while the Estate may not own every single item ever worn by Michael - as a result of Michael's own generosity…”

It’s MICHAEL’s fault?  MICHAEL’s fault that there’s no Michael Jackson Museum …because of his generous, kind heart.  Mocking his humanitarianism - using it as a shield to continue the dismantling of his life‘s legacy.  And making Billions $$$$$$ off of doing so.

Same way it’s Mike’s fault these poor lawyers and accountants have all this “debt” to sort through that we never see any records of.  Average person should ask themselves how someone who owns the Sony/ATV catalog - then “half” the Sony/ATV catalog, as well as his own MIJAC catalog which includes the biggest seller album EVER… Could possibly have debt, the kind being spoken of.  You could shop 'til the cows come home and wouldn’t crack a dent in the residuals alone, seems to me.

"the Estate cannot control what private citizens do with their own property"

I won’t talk about the past NINE (9) Julien’s auctions of Michael Jackson's property in 3 years.

HOWEVER. The “estate” knows very well that we fan/supporters are not asking for items Michael Jackson FREELY GAVE WITH HIS OWN HANDS AS A TRUE GIFT to fans, friends, strangers, the old, the young, the healthy, the dying - the “estate” KNOWS those are NOT the items of which we speak.

And I don't know what MJ clothing Bush gifted the estate - looks like they're ALL still for sale.

AGAIN, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSEUM?

November 19, 2012 - This is the email response I received from official estate rep Alicia

Dear Wendy:

We received and responded to both of your previous emails. We would like to reiterate that NONE of the Michael Jackson items auctioned since Michael’s passing came from the Estate; the Estate maintains close control of all Michael's costumes, etc., in its possession, and will NOT sell them.

This is our third and final response; all future repeat emails will be ignored.

Respectfully,

Alicia

Last thing Brandon, you asked about Michael’s 3 children.  Hear is what Mr. Branca apparently thinks about kids - let alone what he thinks about acting in the best wishes of Michael Jackson as estate executor.

Here’s what MJ thought about the importance of education, books, reading:

Hope I could help out with answering your question a bit.

I read all those words & am sure I dont know the whole story ( Used to that! LOL). However a single glance at that poster & I got a good feeling! Thanx

Thank you for reading all the words, Brian.  I'm sorry there were so many, I couldn't attach my emails..  Glad you liked the photo :)

I can't find the signed and inscribed drawing in this photo in the auction, but I thought someone said it was. Am I missing it?

Steve,
The autographed picture in the photo you posted is not up for auction. However I did post an auction link to an item that has a similar signature style to the one in the photo you posted. Do you remember it?

Prashant,

Do you mean this?

I think that was actually signed by Michael Jackson.

I think this one he is keeping because it is real. This is in his book.
