On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.
Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.
Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.
If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/
Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.
Thanks for your help.

Veronica,
Steve is a great, honest person and (in my opinion) a professional appraiser - even though he does not claim the Pro rank. Please do contact him at editor@autographmagazine.com if you need any ongoing assistance.
Also please do as TeamMichael suggests and contact your credit card company to stop payment. And contact Darren Julien to ask for return of your payment, as Michelle advised.
In case you missed these comparisons from earlier in the discussion, here are some examples of believed genuine MJ signatures (some are official, known authentic) versus some of the forgeries from the Julien-Bush Dec. 2nd sale:
I hope these help you.
Just wanted to pop in and say Hi. I have been following since Taaj first tweeted about this and wanted to say what amazing work you guys have done.
Looks like the first 2 items from the auction are up for resale on ebay...or in this case...RECYCLING GARBABE!
Perhaps the buyer realized these are fake:

WE need to get these off of ebay before someone else buys this trash!
Pretty optimistic asking double and three times what they paid themselves O.O.
Since there is no official investigation that we know of, is there a chance to get them removed?
We need to report this to ebay and shut this racket down before it has time to get off the ground!!
HAHA! Steve look at the auction description:
THE ITEM COMES WITH ALL COA'S AND PROVENANCE FROM THE AUCTION HOUSE...WHICH IS MORE CREDIBLE THEN PSA. HOWEVER IF YOU MUST, OBVIOUSLY JULIENS AUCTION GUARANTEES ALL OF ITS ITEMS WILL PASS AND PSA OR 3RD PARTY VARIFICATION.
He tries to convince potential buyers that Juliens backs them up by 3rd party authentication....yeah, right.... Maybe they bought these things because they thought they were a bargain and could resell and make money on them. They may be none the wiser...Maybe.
Charlotte,
Actually, this is something that came up this afternoon. I was under the impression that Julien's didn't guarantee their autographs, but it turns out they do, for five years. Although you and Julien's have to agree on two experts, and get two evaluations, at your cost.
I apologize to Julien's and everyone here if I said they did not offer a guarantee of authenticity.
Here is Julien's guarantee, at this link on their website: http://www.juliensauctions.com/terms.html
Terms of Guarantee
"Attribution" is defined by Julien's as the creator, period, culture, source of origin, as the case may be as set forth in the Bold Type Heading of a lot in a live auction catalogue or the lot Title of an online auction, as amended by any oral or written salesroom notices and announcements or online notices and announcements. We make no warranties to information not contained in an online lot heading or information not contained in the Bold Type Heading of any live auction catalogue subject to the exclusions listed below.
Julien's warrants the "Attribution", as defined above and subject to the exclusions listed below, of a lot for a period of five years from the date of sale and only to the original purchaser on record at the auction. If it is determined to our satisfaction that the "Attribution" is incorrect, the sale will be rescinded if the lot is returned to the Julien's Auctions warehouse facility in the same condition in which it was at the time of sale. In order to satisfy Julien's that the "Attribution" of a lot is indeed incorrect we reserve the right to require the purchaser to obtain, at the purchaser's expense, the opinion of two experts in the field, mutually acceptable to Julien's and the purchaser, before we agree to rescind the sale under the warranty. This warranty is not assignable and applies only to the original purchaser on record with Julien's. This warranty does not transfer to any subsequent owners of any purchased property (this includes without limitation, heirs, successors, beneficiaries or assigns).
Should a sale be rescinded and the purchase price paid (final successful bid price, plus the buyer's premium), it is specifically understood that this will be considered the sole remedy. It is exclusive and in lieu of any other remedy available as a matter of law, or in equity.
Exclusions will be made and this warranty does not apply to "Attribution" which on the date of sale was in accordance with the then generally accepted opinion of scholars and specialists, or the identification of periods or dates of execution which may be proven inaccurate by means of scientific processes not generally accepted for use until after publication of the catalogue or listing online, or which were unreasonably expensive or impractical to employ.
Well, they may say that but their own experts on their payroll....sounds like it could get sticky. Will be interesting to see. Thanks for that info.
Actually, it is very good news that Julien's has a guarantee of authenticity. It should make things much easier to rescind the sale, whether the buyer paid for the item or not. Buyers need to get the name of at least two experts in the field that are acceptable to Julien's.
Shipping doesn't appear to be refunded under the guarantee, so I think it's important to leave the items at Julien's until authenticity is assessed. But buyers will need to read Julien's Terms of Sale to find out how long they have to pick up their purchases or have them shipped.
I remember someone posting on the rip off on shipping. Its still gonna cost the buyer lots. Juliens got free opinions and didnt want to listen. But I agree with you. At least its a start. A class action should be started by all the buyers.
Charlotte, yes a word about shipping, a fan contacted me a year ago?? saying she had purchased items from Juliens, she spent i think it was around $1,100, Juliens wanted $900 for shipping, NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS, Juliens have been ripping people of for a long time, its a shame they dont speak up, I traveled to "Rocking boxes" in Santa Clarita and shipped it to her for via Fed EX for $80, insurance included. Incidentally, when i was at "Rocking boxes" i saw this banner of Michael.Recently Juliens have announce "In house" shipping, OH, and Juliens require you to pay for your auction winning BEFORE they will send you shipping quote, which takes about two weeks, so they have your money, then send you another hefty bill, if you dont pay shipping, YOU LOOSE YOUR WINNINGS, Unless someone goes and collects them for you! I doubt if the winners are local, mostly out of State and Country,, So most end up paying what is demanded of them, i think they give you 60 days to pay shipping otherwise you forfeit the items..
