We now have a Musician-Direct Autograph Sales Forum where you can post individual discussions of new offerings. It's a big change—and a big improvement. We closed this discussion after 8 years but it will always be available to read.

The new system has been in place for 2 months now and it's working well.

This video shows you how easy the new forum is to use.

You can follow the forum and be notified of new signings exclusively! And you can enter a musician's name in the forum's search box and find any discussions about them.

Be sure to click the Follow link at the bottom of the list of discussions.

Try it...I think you'll like it.

Though I recall a member posting a blog asking about this a while ago, I could not relocate it for my purpose in this discussion.

It can be nice when one stumbles upon a musician's shop (via their website), to see that they are selling their autographs. I figured this could grow as a wee database for listing those musicians who partake in this.

I recently recieved a couple press photos signed in ballpoint from John Mayall's website (http://www.johnmayall.com/merch.html). I am also aware that you can purchase signed CDs from Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits(http://peternoone.com/store/). John 5 ( formerly Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie guitarist) sells various items signed, with an option to dedicate.

So, does anyone else know of this being done by other musicians?

if you dont like his signature, you def wont like J. Mascis from dinosaur jr or evan dando from the lemonheads..rule of thumb..always read the whole description at newbury. I learned my lesson...I got my wife the NKOTB signed cd from newbury thinking it would be the whole band by default. NOPE! I didnt read the description. My bad! It was just one of them..

Also, A signature is a signature, no matter if it is rushed or not or one letter only. Holds the same value regardless. If you get Steve Winwood for example, you get a random weird symbol that he changes up like every year or so. The only thing that may lower any signature value is the medium it is on. For example: A piece of paper as opposed to say a limited edition item. I am talking the value of the item signed along with the signature on it as a whole. rushed or not.

Well said!

If Winwood would sign like this it would be ridicoulos too. Not really seeing the point in your comparison.

my point is, it doesnt matter how they sign. It isn't ridiculous by any means. These are first world problems. Get over yourselves, already! smdh....

People are a bit less forgiving when the quality is that low (and there isn't even one actual letter). Granted, if you're a big fan of the band, you probably don't care too much - I can relate to that, as some of my favorite artists of the past have awful signatures. However, others might cite the fan that absolutely anyone can make that kind of stray mark.

Granted, the Newbury pre-orders are essentially freebies for purchasing the CD, so it's hard to be too upset. Still, a non-effort is a non-effort, and poor quality is poor quality.

Considering the autographed CD slipcover that Newbury Comics offered for the last Vampire Weekend album, this is a significant step down.

Attachments (don't post photos as attachments):

That's lovely, I wasn't aware that was sold previously! Very jealous that you have it in your collection, I'll have to dig around eBay to get one sometime

Can we not go down this rabbit hole.... has nothing to do with authentic vs not authentic or really anything else.

Ironically, signed Vampire Weekend LP, "Father of the Bride" available at Rough Trade...click LP+....no guarantees on who signed or quality!

And I think this will be my last alert if you keep discussing the number of letters that are in the signatures you get... I could admit the discussions authentic/not authentic/autopen since it is still related  to actually buying the signed item or not, but 2 pages on the "quality" of a signature with 20 mail alerts received in the afternoon is really boring...
