My new Prince signed "Purple Rain" 12" Maxi Single from 1984

I had never seen these before. It's a 12-inch (album size) "Purple Rain" single on side 1 with "God" on side 2. The album is purple! These were released in 1984, I believe.

The cover is titled "Prince and the Revolution" and below that "Purple Rain". Prince signed it in purple, "Love Prince". I think both the "Love" and "Prince" look pretty good.

I have pics below.

I'm pretty excited. It's got the full Prince autograph, plus it's signed in purple on a "Purple Rain" 12-inch titled "Prince and the Revolution" from 1984.

Have you heard of them before being that they sell sports?

I'm very interested in hearing what Epperson has to say.

I will let you know as I hear from him.
No, I had not heard of them before. It's family-owned. I talked to the woman on the phone. She sounded like she was at least in her 60s. She seemed nice. I saw pics of their store. It looks nice as well - not that any of that matters. She said they've had possession of the autograph for almost 20 years. I believe her in that regard, which means if it was a forgery, it was likely done sometime in the 90s. But if it's real, it could have been signed in the 80s.
Hello James, Paul,

I can't respond to any of the recent messages due to "maximum nesting length" or some such. I dunno. But I too am looking to see what Roger says.

Best wishes,
Eric
Well i hope its clear cut to Roger. Not one of those ill go of my gut feelings.

Any news, James?

No, I haven't heard anything yet, Paul. You should go back and look again at that one that Marcello posted. I think it might be legit. Look at the one I posted from RR. I think the RR one is real, and Marcello's is not too far off. I think Marcello's has a better chance than some of those "rushed" examples that were in RR.

If you want some good laughs, you should look at some of the Prince "autographs" that Julien's sold as authentic in the past. Some are laughable.

I think with Prince is that you want to try and to them to where and when they were signed and make sure the signatures are a home run as well. It's Prince after all. All the tpa's say he was extremely HARD TO GET A SIGNATURE FROM.

Yes, no doubt. As Steve pointed out, the fact that there were only 12 Prince autographs in the RR archives over 8 years says it all. Prince's autograph is one of the rarest there is. To me the absolute minimum for just a cut should be $1000. Probably more, actually.

Well remember were talked about prince prior to his death and we could perhaps find 2 autographs on the market for 3 thousand and now there are 200 fakes flooding the market. It's a tough gig to weed out the real ones. I wouldn't want to be a tpa on Prince.

This is true, because, even for the TPAs, it can't be all that easy to determine which are real - except for ones like yours or the one I have on the flight manifest. But really, there aren't that many exemplars out there to judge by.

And I'm still mystified how those sloppy "rushed" ones are deemed authentic because they are nothing close to the nice neat one you have. Do you really think those rushed ones are real? Because I think they probably are not. I feel better about my maxi 12 inch than those rushed ones.
