I just got an eBay pop up ad for this item when I clicked this sale thread as I did on the Anthony Perkins piece you listed for sale earlier and the Lugosi previously.
I have to say I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it's potentially a great way to advertise our wares if we want to sell through our membership here and get members into our eBay stores. I just hope sketchy sellers don't start doing this as well here as it's free advertising and appears unregulated if an AL membership is the only requirement. I know the old Buy, Sell and Trade struggled with that issue of vetting.
Are others planning on also taking advantage of this new feature and list items they have for sale here? Is there a limit to how many items we can advertise weekly/monthly? I do have a limited amount of items on eBay at any given time and this might be a helpful tool.
Mixed feelings about what? Mentioning an eBay listing and linking to it is not new and not prohibited. On the third hand it gives a chance for an item to be questioned. Sales in threads are prohibited.
You did not have to click the link.
With all due respect, how is this not a sale thread? I'm not trying to stir the pot. I'm just asking because I might want to consider using this forum to put listings up as well (as others may also). It would at least be a good experiment to see if one could get AL traffic to look at our eBay listings by this method. It seems like a possible win for the seller, AL (commission) and of course eBay.
I rarely sell items, especially vintage signed Art Carney's, Lugosi's and so on. If Steve has a problem with any threads I will hear about it. He has never said anything in the past on the rare occasion I mention a listing. Neither has anyone else IIRC. I just bought that new bold Perkins from Gabe and so I am selling mine. I only upgrade now, and rarely. Well, apart from the new Hoffman Lenny I just bought and showed today. And my new Huston. And the Beatles contact photos I bought a while back.
It is not a sale thread in so much as I am not selling the item here but simply showed it. There was an optional link. I don't think anyone wants to see the place flooded with eBay listings. Folks know I specialize in The Honeymooners and have asked me many times for opinions or to find a Gleason for them. So, I showed this early Carney
Ok. As long as there is consistency and fairness. It's just that I've witnessed some members get reminded at times not to advertise when the hint of a possible sale comes up. I've kept my sales separate from my public activity here since the Buy, Sell and Trade ended as I thought that was policy. As long as it's clear to all members that we can all do this it's fine by me. It's not my board and I certainly don't make the house rules. I just wondered what they were. Now I know. Thank you.
OK. I would not start mentioning many items a week. As I said, it is only when I upgrade. And I am not so sure I have mentioned too many other items, just special ones.
