Mystery ball player from the 1930s-50s

Does anyone know whose signature appears between Harry Hooper and Connie Mack?

What type of item is signed?  Are the Hooper and mystery signatures signed by ball point pen?

It's a guest book that was started in 1946 but continued for several decades (with some pages signed by folks in different decades). Hooper looks like a classic fountain pen to me. I can't tell with the mystery man. I know the older (1945-50) ball points were pretty crummy until Bic came along.
