Need Opinions On this Black Sabbath SIGNED PARANOID LP! Thanks!

Hi everyone. I got this LP for $45 at a local record store in Melbourne, Australia. I think it was original 1970 Australia release. I didn't even realize it was signed until i got home to have another look at it. I was really surprised! I would really appreciate if any Black Sabbath experts could help me with these autograph. Do you think they are good or bad? Thanks very much for helping!

Hi Richard. Thank you so much for your comments and opinion. I really appreciate your help. Yes, the record is an original Australian pressing, released in 1970 on the Vertigo label. I checked on Discogs. (http://www.discogs.com/Black-Sabbath-Paranoid/release/1751115) The autographs weren't signed in pencils. Here are some close up pictures.

Just seen your Geezer news great!! thats awesome. (Could have saved myself the headache by reading you're follow up!) he has a rushed style as well as a little more time devoted style. I have some of those as well as some crazy inscriptions like "Kill the old" Which i'm told he'll only do if he reaaaaaally likes you! LOL guess i'm lucky! I have given him many gifts over the years including some autographs! but hopefully you'll read my post & gimme some credit I came to the same conclusion as Gezzer w/out knowing he was involved!!

I've been following this discussion with interest, having already contributed above. One thing that has been puzzling me is why the record shop did not make anything of these signatures - even if they had no clue as to authenticity - and why the buyer didn't spot them until he got home. They couldn't be much more obvious to anyone who opens the LP up.

Hi a pug called eva. I'll tell you the whole story. It happened on Saturday 20 April 2013. It was the Record Store Day, a lot of record stores were offering discounts for their vinyls. I went to 5 or 6 stores before i went to this particular store where i found the Sabbath LP. I bought a lot of vinyls on that day. Bryan Adams was in town that night for a concert. I bought tickets to see it. The concert was going to start around 8pm. It was around 6:45pm at that time, so i still had a little bit of time before the concert. So i decided to go to that record store and have a quick look. I was just browsing around until i found that PARANOID LP! I have always been searching for Black Sabbath Paranoid LP 1970 Australia Vertigo Swirl. I couldn't believe my luck. So I asked the staff there to see if it was original, he told me that it was the original Australian pressing, released in 1970 on the Vertigo label. He didn't mention anything about the autographs. And he pulled the vinyl out to show me the record label. I was convinced because I've seen pictures for that record on Discogs. And I was in a hurry to get to Bryan Adams concert. So i quickly bought it and headed down to the concert. It was pretty late after the concert, I went straight to sleep as soon as I got home. I actually noticed the autographs next morning when i was checking all my records i bought on Record Store Day. That's the reason why i didn't spot those autographs until i got home.

Thanks again Richard. Speaking of Gezzer, he was super nice when i met him. :) I was gonna show this record to Tony and Ozzy. But they were too hard to meet. I hope next time I get lucky and meet them. Cheers!

So richard can you post a shaky Iommi example that you seen and are comparing this to? I would love to see it. I have also collected sabbath for 17+ years since that somehow is relevant.

And please when you are free post some early Ozzy autographs?

@ Rob was I right?
Did I ultimately say what Geezer stated?
Did you apologize for stating w/out a doubt that this was fake?

No I'm not the expert but offered my opinion. & was correct. Unlike yourself.
No I'm not posting any scans of signatures to aid in people forging Sabbath signatures.
the question is after being proven to be right why are you so disrespectful towards me now?
Mute. Point now
Cheers Richard

I'm not at my office to compare exemplars from that era but from good memory they look right to me.  Carl is correct that a celebrity can not tell his signature from a good forgery, it's not their expertise.  Thats why they have handwriting experts in courts.  Nice find.

Roger thank you for your opinion  your is the only one which matters. Not mine not some guy who says he knows the band and definitely not an artist who would lie to not hurt a fans feelings. When you get back could you post similar Iommi's? Thank you

If I am wrong so be it, but unless I see other Iommi's like that from roger (the expert) I would pass. Look at the guy who gave Mickey Mantle his rookie jersey for a photo shoot, Mantle stated without a doubt its his rookie jersey. Well years later it was uncovered the fabric used was made in the 70's as most of the jerseys that were submitted to the HOF in the same collection. Meaning Mantle was wrong since he was not a game used jersey expert.

@ Rob I communicated w/scissorhand by private email & will back up any claim I made, I told him I would share & communicate via e-mail, not share examples on these site, You ever googled sabbath signatures? the images on this site come up, I despise fakes, I will not give forgers one more example of various sabbath signatures to choose a template from, you do not know me, you should attempt to respect people, you stated the Geezer was all wrong, the Iommi was shaky, you dismissed my opinion, geezers opinion, apparently YOU are the expert! & w/out knowing an awful lot you had dismissed this piece very early in it's posting. I have collected sabbath since 1982 & that includes in person autographs & Have obtained more than you could imagine, I have brought fakes to bands attention in autograph shops in places like las vegas, etc etc. it's useless the merchant has a COA or some other worthless document maybe by an authentication service who is paid $$$ to legitimize these pieces of garbage. those mean nothing to me, I'm not autograph expert, but I know Black Sabbath. by the way the only picture I have on this site is a book Bill signed to me @ lunch in LA after his radio show 2 years ago, I've known him since 1989, bill is kind courteous & respectful of fans obliging anyone who writes him. You dismissed Geezers opinion of piece,My opinion, you also took NO TIME to look @ what it is thats signed! IMHO you have to take into consideration the item itself, which you completely ignored. Sometimes artists may not be the right person to ask, Mickey Mantle was older & senile, Geezer Butler is not. You are very disrespectful in you're approach, & are forgetting a few things, those documents proving an item "real" are worthhless. Ebay is 99.9% fakes & 50% of them have COA PSA DNA BLAH BLAH BLAH ETC all b*******.
