Hi I'm new here and just recently acquired a book from ebay possibly with Nelson Mandela's signature in it signed with felt tip marker. It's called Madiba: Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela A Celebration. It's a look through of his life and the inscription inside says it was presented during a De Beers golf tournament in 1999 to support his Children's fund. However I couldn't find much about this book or the event online. I also read here that ebay and abebooks has sold forged books before. I was wondering if any of you could help me authenticate this or who I should go to. I'm willing to spend some on appraising it. Just don't know where to start. Let me know if i need more pics or info.
Thanks for your time!

Good replies from everyone here
And everything needs to be scrutinized before purchasing
Even a COA won't be the final assurance. Jeez here we go discussing COA's again. Ken, have a look thru old threads here and see the mountain of discussions about COA's and the scams associated
On the Abe books Mandela.... It's a red flag for me if the signature is not posted. Maybe they will send it via email upon request?
Oh wow didn't know about the whole COA scams. yikes. Do you think i should try to get a pic from abebooks?
yeup
now is the time to do some reading about COA's and the associated scams
Have a look at Steve's "is there a forgery business" thread
There is so much information on this site about the forgery business it will blow your mind
You're going to be reading for days on end haha
I would personally never buy something without a close and clear photo. So yes, it would be a good idea to ask for a photo. See what they say and do
Good. I would suggest opening a new folder on your desktop or wherever and save all Mandela pics, prices (w/dates) etc for reference. In time, patterns will show.
LOL I will definitely read the articles on this site!
Hi Kenistod, I would suggest reading threads here and wherever you can - last thing to do is actually BUY. Collect knowledge first - it is much cheaper :)
Thanks Eric I will! I'm glad I found you guys. Wish I had seen this earlier. But at least my last purchase sent me here. Now I know you guys exist!
Kenistod, always keep in mind that ANYONE can print up a COA. COAs are only as reputable as the person or company that printed it.
