I've been monitoring the Natalie Portman autographs as of late waiting to see when a bunch of TPA'd and cuts showed up, and I stumbled across something a bit weird.

I found an autograph (that I'm 90% sure has been cut from a book) that has been "authenticated" by JSA. However, the item comes with a basic cert rather than an LOA. The JSA fee schedule doesn't even show the basic cert as an option for Portman. Does that mean they now consider this to have a sub-$200 valuation, or is this just something that high-volume submitters are able to do to save money?
Oddly I can't get the Cert. # to pull up anything on the website, but I might just be looking it up wrong somehow.

you can buy portman signed books for under $200. you have to be crazy to spend that kind of money on a cut. and yes that was cut from a book
Yup, I agree. I didn't see another opportunity like the present coming any time soon so I picked up a bunch of the books.
On top of the price, the item now has an ugly sticker affixed to it which I wouldn't like. If you think this price is crazy, just look at what happens when trading/sports card companies repackage autographs. They chop out the autograph and put it in their "card" as a cut and all of a sudden it goes for big bucks.
The Taylor Swift signed CDs were $25 from her store, and readily available for <$50 from resellers (and then again for $25 from her store). They made a bunch into cut signature cards, and currently sell for $250-300. Why people want to pay 10x as much for what is essentially a destroyed item is beyond me. It's only a matter of time before these $150-200 Portman books are released as a bunch of $400-600 "cut cards."
...I still haven't quite figured out how they got a cert instead of an loa though.
