PSA and JSA forgeries? Have you seen any you feel they possibly made a mistake on?

I'm not sure about you guys but I've seen a few in my years of searching ebay.  What about you?  Have you ever seen an autograph that was authenticated by a major authenticator ( EXCLUDING GAI ) that you thought was in fact a forgery?

If you have, please post scans if you have them available.  I know when it comes to authentication it is hard to beat JSA or PSA but I have read stories about some errors made by the companies.  The infamous Sal Bando incident is one that comes to mind http://rant.sportslizard.com/2007/12/01/jsa-authenticator-busted-on...

There are other examples very similar where JSA and PSA were at a show where an athlete was signing and someone swapped the real ball they had signed with a forgery they did before the show and the authenticator gave it the stamp of approval.   The Pete Rose incident is another example of where JSA assumed because Pete Rose was signing autographs at the show they were authenticating at, that every person who put a Pete Rose autograph in front of them must have the real thing.

Here is another link that shows where a forgery may have slipped through the cracks.  http://haulsofshame.com/blog/?p=10958

They ( PSA and JSA ) have authenticated printed signatures in books as authentic and have even authenticated a real signature of Kato Kaelin signature as being signed by Kate Hudson.

I am new here and certainly not here to cause a fuss, I am just curious as to what you guys think the % of fakes that do slip through the PSA or JSA cracks.  I think we can all be wise enough to admit that forgeries do get through.  There is no way they can be 100% all of the time.

I value their opinion but after looking at a Mantle that they authenticated ( It looks traced ) , I question just how good they truly are.  I had a Derrick Rose autograph that failed their authentication, but in fact...It was obtained in person BY ME at a Bulls vs Bobcats game.

I saw a youtube test video where a guy forged a Bob Feller autograph on camera and sent it in to PSA and it come back slabbed.  I just wonder if they are all they claim to be

What? I can't believe there's a video out there like that. You have a link? Very interesting topic though. I've never dealt with the companies personally, so I'd like to see what others have to say.

Mercury, this was years ago.  I assure you there was a video out there.  The guy forged a Bob Feller signature show it up close on camera, then several weeks later posted it coming back from them authenticated.  Hell, the news has that Sal Bando incident on film.  They set JSA up, but granted....they should look at every autograph they put their seal on.

Right now Sal Bando might not mean crap but who is to say in 100 years?   I assure you that JSA and PSA are both guilty when it comes to rubber stamping autographs at shows.

Ill have to look it up when I have more time. But that's a shame. But you know, as much as I think they help some people, a part of me does not believe in authenticators. I mean, realisticly, nobody can get it right 100% of the time. Granted, if I am not at familiar with a sig, I will ask for help, but in all honesty I prefer asking major fans of that celeb. These people have been fans and collectors of one or two stars for years. I'm more inclined to believe a major fan's opinion over someone who authenticates 100s of different celebs a day. Nobody can specialize in 100s of celebs. Luckily, there are some great fans on this site for many celebs. 9 times out of 10 ill got to one of them before sending off for a quick view or written letter. I've only done it a few times, and it seems you never really know what companies are in everybody's good graces. I only mean that I've heard some people say they wouldn't use PAAS, yet I used them once and found them to be very professional and helpful. Maybe its something I've misinterpreted, but it all gets a bit confusing really.

Here is a 100% forgery...OR IS IT? This was failed by James Spence simply because it had a Morales COA prior to being submitted to JSA.    What makes this particularly odd is the fact that Chris " Rubber Stamp " Morales authenticated it BEFORE JSA.  So if JSA is that good why did they fail this?

TAKE A LOOK AT THE PICTURES!   SEE FOR YOURSELF!

Here is a 100% authentic autograph that JSA failed, AND THE GUY SUBMITTED A PROOF PHOTOGRAPH, yet they stood by their original opinion.  That is crazy.  I've seen some lame proof photos but this is actually a true proof photo.   How in the world can the man be standing next to the celeb and the autograph be fake?  If you enhance the photograph is can clearly be seen this is the EXACT SAME GUITAR!

Charles,

This so-called JSA sting that was performed and bandied about by the forgery industry and shown on forgery industry-friendly sites AutographAlert.com, BehindtheGavel.com and others was a fraud. You can't believe anything the people involved said happened.

Steve, Thanks for that information

P.A.A.S has good intentions just as PSA and JSA but I've seen some signatures that they have authenticated that are questionable.  I would think they probably have a better success rate because they don't have mail coming in by the thousands a day, but even still.... If P.A.A.S says they hit 100% of the time, they are only lying to themselves.  I would rank them in with PSA and JSA.  I think they are decent.  They certainly don't have a rubber stamp like Global.

Agreed. I dealt with Mike Frost of PAAS on an Elton John sig I wanted for my wife. He was very helpful and pretty fast in responding which I greatly appreciated. Normally however, I wouldn't have used any authenticator. I was in a bit of a time crunch and I knew a very basic amount about ej sigs. My wife is an expert on it, but since it was intended to be a surprise, I had to insure it was genuine without her help. Otherwise, I would've just asked ej fans online and studied up on his Sig more myself. But I have read that mike is very honest about any mistakes he's made and I do not believe he ever said he had 100% track record. He got back to me within the same day of inquiry, and even apologized for taking so long (ej is a pretty common forgery according to Mike, so he took a little extra time to look it over to be sure) and deemed it likely to be genuine. I bought it and once if my wife wishes, ill have it sent in for a letter. But I doubt she'll want to. No need, as shell never let the damn thing out of her sight no doubt!

NOT EVEN JANE SEYMOUR!!!  NOT EVEN CLOSE

Are you sure its really been deemed by PSA/DNA? I don't mean to be devil's advocate, but anyone can claim its been through PSA. That doesn't mean it really has. Was this from their official site? I thought PSA put hologram stickers on their items?
