Hi Guys,

I'm new to the website and autograph hunting but very excited about this new and daunting world! I initially checked out some stuff on ebay and got very excited until doing some more research and realising that there's a lot of fakes kicking about.

My question to you knowledgable chaps is have you heard of rareandsigned.com and are they a reliable source of genuine autographs?

In particular I was checking out this link of a Bob Marley signed album

http://www.rareandsigned.com/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=1629...

For such a collectible item it seems quite good value. They also have various Led Zep albums signed by all four band members for around $1000 which seems too good to be true for the now deceased John Bonham's squiggle.

Anyone have any advice on these guys? Avoid or legit?

Cheers

Karl

I'm skeptical about that Bob, possibly a rushed one. I'm no expert, well see if anyone else has an opinion on it. Doesn't match up with other authentic sigs I've seen from him. IMO

Cheers Ryan, I worry when I see typo's in the description. If you're dealing with something that rare at least get your spelling right!

Welcome to the world of autograph collecting. My first piece of advice for you? Avoid rareandsigned at all costs and sites like them.

Thanks Brick. Apart from experience is there any way to buy with confidence? Are dealers such as Paul Fraser Collectibles and Roger Epperson the only way to be sure? It seems like these sites are considerably more expensive, so I guess that's the premium you pay for authenticated autographs.

The considerably more expensive isn't what you pay for authentic"ated" it's what you pay for AUTHENTIC

As Brick said, welcome to autograph collecting

Hi Karl,

Welcome to Autograph Magazine Live! You could sell decent band-signed Led Zeppelin albums with Page, Plant, Jones & John Bonham to dealers all day long for $7,500 or more (if you could find them!), so that may give you an idea of how likely those albums are genuine. And that's the story of RareandSigned.com. I would avoid them like the plague. Their also on eBay's banned COA list.

Thanks Steve, that's exactly what I needed to hear. It's such a shame that dishonest people are cashing in on enthusiasts inexperience. I wanted to believe there were great deals on eBay but it seems like they really are too good to be true. Glad I found this website and I appreciate the advice of you guys that have been in the business for so long.

It is a shame, I joined this site about 2 weeks ago and it truly is the best way to get an HONEST opinion on potential purchases. Until I get my eyes trained to 100% spot a forgery, I post potential purchases on here and the community has already helped me a ton.

Thanks for the site Steve!

Thanks Ryan. I'm a huge music fan and have been collecting vinyl for many years, and now I've been thinking about investing in autographed memorabilia, partly for the love of music but also as a future investment. My dream is to have a genuine signed Jimi Hendrix photo on the wall of my studio but looking at the prices I'd better start saving!

Just a quick update if anyone is interested. I ran the Bob signed album link past Roger Epperson for a quick appraisal and he said it's not even close to authentic.
