Remembering the King of Pop - Michael Jackson 10 years later

Today (June 25th) marks 10 years since Michael Jackson’s untimely passing on June 25, 2009.  This world was lucky to have Michael Jackson for a brief 50 years.  He gave to the world so much more than he took from it.  It was not only his sweet music that was legendary, so too was his love and charity.

It is believed that Michael gave more of his own money to charities than any celebrity ever has.  He visited countless hospitals in order to give sick and dying children a ray of light.  He didn’t just sing about making the world a better place - he took action.  He talked the talk, but he also walked the walk.  His “moonwalk” took the world by storm in the 1980s as did his unforgettable album “Thriller” released in the fall of 1982.  It still remains the highest-selling album in the world.

Michael Jackson, you left the world much too soon.  But your legacy of love, charity, and kindness left an imprint that will never be forgotten.

God Bless, the King of Pop! 1958 - 2009

Hello James,

thank you for your kind words. My eyes were filled with tears. I loved his music even as a little girl and I was always very excited when I saw him on MTV. I grew up in the east of Germany and was happy that we got the western radio and television stations. I love his critical lyrics and that he was always the voice for the weaker ones. He has made me a better person with his nature. That he has given so much humanitarian aid and has used his money for it. Without his help some people would not live anymore, e.g. Bela Farkas. Mike organized and paid for the complete liver transplant for this little boy.

Michael, you have given so much to the people and have only been lied to and used. I'm sorry we didn't take better care of you. Now you are in a better place. We miss you, but you live on in our hearts with your music. We love you more❤️

So well said, Berit!  The story about Bela Farkas...we don’t hear those stories about Michael’s heroism nearly as much as other things...unfortunately.  Michael really was a voice for the voiceless.  He cared about people, and people know this.  He was a kindred soul.

I’ll never forget where I was when I heard he had died.  I was just pulling into the parking lot at a Border’s bookstore in Lawrence, Kansas.  A friend of mine had just texted me, and the text said, “Michael Jackson just died!”  And I was like...”No!”

While I agree with you James, I want to be sure we don't veer into discussions of innocence or guilt again.  There are other forums for that.

If folks want to share their autographs on this discussion, we would welcome that - and if you obtained it in person that would be even cooler, tell us when / where, and what the experience was like.

I agree with you.

I would also like to see autographs which handed over in person and I’d like to hear the stories about it.

I have unfortunately acquired only one:(

And I would also like to know from Wascher and James how/why you became autograph experts. I hope it is ok to ask this question:/?

I don't call myself an expert, but have had numerous auction houses and experts ask me for my opinions on items, since I follow the forgery market closely on MJ sigs.  I also compiled an exemplar file of my own with thousands of authentic examples that I use to compare and help people with if they ask.  I don't come on as often as I used to, but I do scan the discussions once a week for any new MJ topics.  I also will help Steve with moderation at any time he needs (as needed basis).

I’m definitely no expert.  I’m probably better with JFK stuff than anything else, but that’s always a work-in-progress.  With Michael Jackson, I’m still trying to learn...with Wascher’s tutelage!  She may not call herself an expert, but I can tell you this.  I would trust her opinion on Michael Jackson more so than anyone at PSA, JSA, or Beckett!  I can’t think of anyone that could be better on MJ stuff than Wascher...including even Roger Epperson...no offense, Roger...you’re pretty good too!

For me, I think I can spot authentic vintage MJ autographs better than the ones from say the late 90s on.

‘But anyway, I’ve learned a lot on this site.  I’ve been collecting autographs for probably about 20-25 years in a serious way.

I completely understand, Wascher.  I went ahead and edited the page so as not to ignite such a discussion.

Awesome :)  thank you!

welcome =0)

Thanx so much for letting me read both of your stories. It is so interesting to hear how you got there. I have only a small clue of how much effort and time is behind it.

@wascher: you are perfect in your work and I love your opinion because I know that you are honest and direct.

@James: You are my number 1 here, I like your comments and even if you say you are in a learning process. It helps people a lot.

With you it's never boring here. And sorry for my english. I have to learn/train a lot.

Berit, thank you so much for such nice comments.  Although I’m not sure the praise is earned, I’ll gladly accept your kind words with a smile on my face.  Thank you.  And by the way, your English is excellent!

Uii, I forgot Steve and Lizzie. Thank you so much for always being there. Luv u:)
