Calling all Ronald Reagan Autograph Experts!!!!!!
R.R Auction has a Ronald Reagan Autographed SP in its Vintage Hollywood Collection.
The inscription and signature on that photo, needs a bit of examination by members of our autograph community who collect Reagan.
I would be interested in hearing thoughts on its provenance and authenticity........

I wanted to share Bill White's excellent signature study of Ronald Reagan. I hope you find it helpful before bidding on this item in our Vintage Hollywood auction.

Remember, RR Auction guarantee's everything it auctions forever.
Also, I believe University Archives did an excellent study on Reagan.

I am so happy you shared Bill White's Study for all to see.
Because I was going to share it with all of the member's of this forum as well..
Excellant Study... Very thorough..
Too bad Someone their At RR did not refer to it in regards to this photo.
None of Bill's authentic Exemplars of Reagan Match the Signature on the above photo.
When you want me to go into greater detail how it does not match Bill's Examples let me know.
I can go point by point with Bill's reference's and point out how the above photo does not even come close.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Can someone tell me why A Ronald Reagan SP publicity 8x10 photo is worth $1504
when The Sanders Autograph Price Guide 7Th Edition has its worth at about $423.
Please somebody tell me why it is worth almost 4 times whats quoted in the Guide.
The Ronald Reagan photograph depicted above is, in my opinion, authentically signed by Ronald Reagan. The video presented by John Reznikoff and University Archives clearly shows the differences between an authentically signed early Hollywood Reagan and one penned for him by his mother Nelle: http://universityarchives.com/In-the-News/Audio---Video/Authenticat...
As far as value, the prices listed in Sanders are average prices. A Reagan photo signed on a dark portion, with pin holes in the corners and folds and creases, may sell for $150 while one signed in a light area with the same defects may sell for $500 and one that has the pin holes but no creases may sell for $900. But there may be one with a lengthy inscription to Reagan's first employer thanking him for hiring him and guiding him on his road to success now that he's an actor that would sell for $2000. The Sanders Guide is just a guide. If only two signed photographs of anyone were in existence, and one was sold for $500 in a catalogue while the other sold at auction for $2000, its Sanders price would be $1250.
Herman and John...
As you both know, I respect each of you very much when it comes to authenticity issues.
And I have reviewed John's Video, your study in Pen and Quill and Bill White's excellent study on Authentic Reagan's.
All of them have shown me in many ways that the above Reagan is not authentically signed by him
The signature and inscription are not consistent with an Authentic Reagan.
All examples of the characteristics of an Authentic Reagan, in Bill's study, John's video and your study Herman are not present in this signature.
Now If you gentlemen want to dissect the Signature with me here point by point,
I will be more than happy to refer to the above studys and reference to them the points that make this signature suspect.
I cannot believe that all three extensive studys are wrong, so please enlighten me by bringing out the signature charecteristics in the above signature that you believe make it authentic.
I think it would be a great way for all of us to learn about how to do our own authenticating when considering autographs to purchase
Bob,
Good question. Sanders Guide reports price indications, it doesn't set them. If that Reagan's at $1500 already, then several people feel that it's worth a lot of money. The auction has, what...5 days left? Knowing R&R, opening bid was probably $100 or so...not $1,000.
Steve....
No standard 8x10 publicity Dept photo of any actor, Let alone Ronald Reagan, is worth $1500 unless the inscription is of such enormous value, and historical importance and the provenance is backed by a verifiable paper trail.
None of which applies to the Reagan photo.
Bob,
Then why do you think the bid is up to $1500? I just browsed the auction and most of the items aren't over $200 yet.
What would you consider a verifiable paper trail for an in-person collection such as this one? Goodman was a known in-person collector and this clearly isn't in Reagan's mother's handwriting. It's inscribed to him, either meaning it was collected by him or for him...or someone who knew Reagan's handwriting well forged a "B" actor 's autograph over half a century ago. I didn't compare the pen to see if it matched others Goodman used.
This has lots of Reagan characteristics and feels like Reagan...but it was signed in-person, presumably standing, with irregularities that often come from signing like that.
You know much more than me...I'm not saying you're wrong. I just don't understand.
Steve...
You have to get over the "in-person, presumably standing, with irregularities that often come from signing like that" Thing......
That excuse is BS.
Plus I never said irregularities, I said charecteristics, and none of them match the 3 studies I quoted above.
I am waiting for Herman and John to go over the signature with me here online, and show us point by point why they feel it is authentic, while I will bring out points that they bring up in their studies, that they say are indicators of an authentic Reagan Signature.
Bob,
That's not an excuse. But you're the one questioning this item, so it's up to you to make your case why it's not good...not Herman, or John or anyone else to prove why it is good.
