Screwed again trying to buy a Simon and Garfunkel signed album...

Last week I came across a guy on Ebay selling a signed simon and Garfunkel signed Sounds of Silence album.  This was the nicest Paul Simon signature I have ever seen.  he had a story that his wife's father is Ted Everly, the first cousin of the Everly Brothers.  His father in law took the album to a show a few years back where the Everly Brothers were opening for Simon and Garfunkel and got the album signed.  I verified all of his information and it was accurate.  We worked out a best offer deal for $400.  I mentioned to him that there was another Simon and Garfunkel album that was just listed with a buy it now of $225, but I preferred his album.  Ten minutes later I notice that the other album was sold.  He tells me he is out of town until last Saturday, I'm waiting for the Paypal invoice, and he tells me that he just got the same album as his from his friend and it is in better condition and he can offer it to me for less money if I'm interested.  I tell him that I really like his, because of how nice the signatures are.  he sends me a photo of this other album from his friend that he bought and it was the one from Ebay.  I was really pissed off.  I told him that it was the same one from Ebay that I passed and that I'm not interested, he starts claiming that it isn't the same and then tells me that he went ahead and sold the one I was supposed to buy from him.

So this jackass goes ahead and buys the one off Ebay and turns around and misrepresents it to me as being from his friend.  He paid $225 for it was was giving it to me for a deal at $375.  I sent him a photo of the one from Ebay and told him what I thought of him.  he still insisted that he did nothing wrong.

I cannot believe he went and sold the album we agreed on, what a putz!  I feel like I'm never going to find a Simon and Garfunkel signed album that is authentic or from a trustworthy person.

Thanks for listening.

Form of the old bait-and-switch, eh? That hasn't happened to me on eBay. I've had something similar happen with a prominent online electronic store. I bought an iPod because it was a very good price and then they send me an email saying that the color I ordered is out of stock but they have this one in stock, which coincidentally cost $30 more. It never feels good. I hope you got your money back. The problem is probably too nuanced for eBay to care but you can leave bad feedback.
Luckily I didn't send him the money.
It may be a blessing in disguise. I wouldn't buy ANY autograph from someone capable of pulling something like that.
Steve, I agree with you.  It could have arrived with issues, or even a different album.  Really p***** me off as it was exactly what I have been looking for.

That's the thing with autographs of musicians, especially. You've got such an emotional bond with the music that it can be downright painful when you lose what you want.

THE album, too. Shame

I hear you.  I took my wife to the Simon and Garfunkel concert here in Phoenix for our anniversary a few years back.  We both love the group and I tricked her into thinking my parents were coming over to watch the kids so we could go to a movie.  I had to drive past the movie theatre to get to the arena and my wife starts yelling at me that we were going to be late for the movie.  She really let me have it.  When we got to the arena, she still couldn't figure out why we were there.  Once I handed her the ticket, she felt so bad.  All night she had that look of disbelief on her face, she had wanted to see them and never thought she would get the chance.  I actually wanted to get her that signed album for her birthday.

That's a great story...you earned some miles for sure. :)

Talk to Epperson and other rock dealers and ask if they have a customer they can try to pry an album from.

Roger actually has one in his store right now
I saw it, but the signatures looked a little light.  Not sure how it is in person.
Well best of luck mate, sorry to hear you got screwed over.

Who was the seller? I'd like to avoid him at all possible
His user name is:  aquariustwist

You may have already visited this site, but www.autographsale.net has some S and G autographs for sale i believe on albums. I have never checked their price though. I know the dealer to be reputable, as i have bought several led zeppelin and pink floyd items from him, and they all passed PSA.

Hope this helps

Chris
