Signed Complete Works, should it be working better for me?

A warm hello to you all on my first post here,

I have been a Queen fan since 1972 and have owned the Complete Works from new and never considered selling it. It has been tricky for me to put a true worth on it and I have had some offers which have just seemed too low.

So I thought I would reach out here and perhaps tap into your collective wisdom.

I bought the box in Dec 1985, it's the lid numbered version. 4 months later I was lucky enough to win the fully signed "Complete Vision" sleeve XIV from the box in a competition at the 1st Official Fan Club convention in Great Yarmouth, UK. Short of a few outings to show friends and family, it has never seen the light of day, the vinyl is unplayed.

I welcome comments on the authenticity although I have never doubted it because of how I acquired it.

The reason for my post is the offers I have had seem to fly in the face of current values listed on here by the guru known as "Innuendo" (take a bow). So my questions are......What is a realistic honest price? and more to the point, where would you suggest I look to sell it? I am hoping to hook up with someone who will appreciate it as I have rather than see it as a commodity. Is now a sensible time to sell it?

I've looked at ebay and a few auction sites and the prices are all over the place. This item usually sells with the box of vinyl as I'm sure you will know. Some I have seen are tatty compared to mine, especially the condition of the box itself.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I welcome and appreciate any feedback.

Hello and a warm welcome to the forum. A awesome.piece you own there and it is the best time right now to sell the item becaise of the movie and the hype.
About the price. A item is always worth what a buyer is willing to pay in this case you should get a minimum of 2500 USD up to 3500 USD is what I think realistic.
I always try to sell over several plattforms such as ebay or this forum

Hi Patrick,

Many thanks for that. I noticed after my post that there is a marketplace here. I'll wait for a nod of authenticity.

You will get it is legit.

These have been selling for around 2500 to 3500 USD. There were a total of 600 signed, and they have been popping up for sale like mad lately. I think we've seen about 10 sell in the last 3 months or so. If you were to sell via auction house, you'd likely get the higher end of that scale. The last few private sales for it I've seen were closer to the 2500 mark. It's absolutely genuine and looks to be in great condition.

Where were you getting your offers from? Facebook? If so, you should know 99% of the people you'll find on Queen related Facebook sites have no cash, no sense of value for signed items and no intentions of buying. It's annoying, but common for them to lowball for fully signed items.

+1 Excellent condition from the others I looked at today. Very nice! Hold out for your $.

Many thanks Eric.

Thanks Innuendo, very reassuring and yes, the condition is as good as the photos suggest. The offers were not via social media, one from an online autograph site and one from a rare vinyl specialist. Both for £1000, both rejected. I get a sense of mickey taking as I am trying to sell with integrity. These people know what this item is worth, hence my asking here. Would you object if I quoted you if I post for sale on here?

No problem with that. 2500 USD is the current typical value for these post movie (again, higher if you post via auction house or gain the attention of more European bidders on ebay). Could it be that they were making you that offer before the prices jumped? Just a few months ago, that offer of 1,200 USD was considered fair for this piece.

Ok, thanks. Only last week so not pre-movie offers. More likely banking that I would not be aware of the price hike. I'm old school when it comes to being fair and straight. Hopefully not a dying breed!

Hi Guys,

My gratitude for all your comments and views, also apologies to Eric for being unresponsive to his IM. I don't want to sell it, but unfortunately it is out of necessity rather than inclination. I will post it here for sale shortly and see what interest there is. Finally, I am aware of the 600 figure quoted for the "signed-sleeve-in-box" scenario. Anybody have an idea how many XIV sleeves were distributed separately via Fan Club auctions and competitions like mine?

Basically, should I consider selling the sleeve apart from the box?

Thanks again

Last time I asked her a few years back, Jacky didn't keep tabs on the number of them given to the FC, but that doesn't add to the value at all. Actually, thanks to all the fakes she's helped auction off, mentioning the fan club at all often causes people to lose intrest in an item. I can pretty much guarantee you'll get more intrest from collectors if you sell it as a complete set vs just the sleeve. The sleeve alone will sell, but keep in mind those box sets (even unisgned) are still valued and sought after. 9 times out of 10, you're going to get more value for having a complete box set.

Ps if you're going to offer it on Ebay as well, start off with a low starting price and set a reserve for the price you want to sell it for. The mistake everyone is making right now is selling at a buy it now price of what it should be going for. People see $2500 outright and they turn away. Meanwhile the Innuendo poster that sold for 6K started off at couple hundred dollars and got bidders flooding in.
