Hello. This guitar is said to have the signatures of the 3 most-known Nirvana members (Cobain, Novoselic, and Grohl), and also seems to have "Polly" scrawled on the guitar as well.

Serial number dates Fender Strat guitar to 1993/1994 (Japanese-made Squier series).

It was suggested to me that I post some photos of it here, as there are some Nirvana/Cobain signature experts who frequent the site and discussion forums.

Feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

Looks slow and drawn to me. Odd that the volume knob was removed to accommodate the Kurdt sig. The toning around the first knob suggests a "later sig". I think it is fake. The white halo about the Krist also looks quite odd. Second attempt? Yet the Grohl is under the screw. Something strange here. Polly is the name of a song. Switch tip MIA.

Supposedly the pick-guard/faceplate was removed before signing, which might explain some of that.

Thank you for your feedback, Eric! I appreciate it.

No problem. :) See what others say.

Since RadioWitch is looking for Nirvana experts, please let her know your level of Nirvana expertise if you give your opinion. Thanks

Thanks so much, Steve!

Beginner with these names.

Thanks for posting, Eric, even as a beginner with these individuals/signatures. I appreciate your input.

I would be very suspicious of this signed fender. The Kurt signature looks a bit off. Especially the 'r'. If you go to www.autographsale.net where there are a few genuine examples you can compare. It's run by Grieg McArthur.

Something that is very odd is that prior to signing this the guitar white plate has been cleaned but only in parts. Which is very strange indeed.

Just to clarify I am not an expert nor collector of these types of signatures. I am only voicing my opinion based on the said website and other.

Proceed with extreme caution!

Regards,

Mark

Thank you very much, Mark. I appreciate your feedback.

Saw this guitar being offer for sale back in April this year. I contacted them via email telling them that this guitar is not authentic. They replied that they stand by their authentication that it is authentic.

Authentic Nirvana signed guitar are very hard to come by. There are a few that are on display at EMP Nirvana Exhibit in Seattle. There is an authentic signed guitar that is being offer for sale by a collector in the Northwest for about $49k. And a big auction house just sold a broken signed Nirvana guitar 2 week ago for $153k. It comes with solid provenance.

All 3 autographs on this guitar posted is not even close to being authentic. I have been collecting Nirvana signed memorabilia since 1990.

Hi, J. Just to be clear, I don't believe the seller is claiming the band used the guitar, as with the broken guitar you mentioned, so the issue is really just about the signatures. I understand the rarity of such an item regardless. But I would expect a guitar broken/smashed onstage with solid provenance would fetch a much higher price than one with just the signed faceplate. Still, I agree with your thoughts regarding this specific piece, and thank you so much for your help.

This is not real at all. As J Seah mentions, signed Nirvana guitars are rare!
