...or at least one of the producers from the show, anyway. I was contacted through ebay regarding an autograph item of mine that they had spotted with some potential interest for the show.
Swapped a phone call and an email or two and finally connected with one of the casting producers who had a battery of questions regarding provenance, authenticity...many of the same questions they frequently appear to use against folks on the show.
However, after speaking with the producer it quickly became clear that they had misread or misinterpreted the photos and description and what appeared to be a signed CDV was merely a cut signature a 19th c. collector had glued alongside the CDV - something I had explained in the auction copy. Once clarified, it quickly became clear that the item wouldn't likely fly but the producer was still planning to pitch the item to the production team. Asked me if I'd be willing to travel if the item was selected.
No surprise - ultimately they passed on it with the feedback that the signed item - in their words - needs to be something of value on its own, other than just a piece of paper. Ultimately, I pitched a few more prospective candidates, but no bites. Yet.
Either way, perhaps not so surprising for some to realize that some if not all of the walk-ins on the show are manufactured.

And if they like an item but don't care for the owner, they can replace the owner with an actor.
Welcome to "reality tv"...where sometimes very little is real.
The first season they had the brother from ricks restoration selling a beat up coke machine. Its just a bit of fun without getting to ridiculous.
I have never watched the show, but it has been recommended to me as being very interesting.
I think it's one of the few shows other than 'Antiques Roadshow' that gives decent exposure to autograph collecting. Now their low-balling and alleged experts - well, that's another thing.
