Sportsmemorabilia.com Credibility?
Guys, I thought sportsmemorabilia.com was trustworthy when it comes to authentic autographs. It was my first purchase, and when I googled reviews I didn't see any issues related to forgeries. Not to mention the sales rep indicated that Global Authentics was one of the big companies and I had no idea that they had done authentications that were known suspicious, until I stumbled upon this forum. (One post came up indicating 90% of GA's authentications are forgeries? Is that true?)
I bought a hockey puck signed by Taylor Hall (the current star of Edmonton Oilers) from sportsmemorabilia.com as a gift for someone and obviously, it is too late to do anything now since I'm not going back to the gift receiver and say "Hey, you know that puck I got you? Apparently it might not be real." However, for my future reference, can someone explain to me if sportsmemorabilia.com or GA's issues are related to any particular people or sport, and if hockey players' autographs are known to be an issue with them? I've attached a photo of the hockey puck. Personally, I don't think Taylor Hall's autograph is considered "dangerous" or "rare" (unlike some bigger names in hockey), but you can confirm for me since I am new. Even if you're not familiar with Taylor Hall's autograph, don't go! Please at least tell me if in general, hockey players' autographs are known to be an issue with sportsmemorabilia.com or GA! Or even if you don't know that, at least explain to me what's the deal with these complaints about sportsmemorabilia.com or GA? I don't really know the stories.

I just checked out the video and read the responses. I learn something new everyday. Now that I got some general info on why Sportsmemorabilia.com is fishy, can you tell me if their hockey autographs are known to have problems? It seems like the suspicion you are referring to is only related to Babe Ruth, but what about their hockey items? This puck I purchased is signed by someone from Edmonton Oilers and although he is the star of the team, he's not exactly a legend, not exactly someone whose autograph is nearly as worthy and dangerous as Babe's. Would you say in this case there's a bigger chance that this product on Sportsmemorabilia.com is real?
Pretty please, can you help me out with this? Look at my puck picture in my OP, and compare to these legitimate examples below and let me know if my autographed puck has any chance of being authentic? You don't have to give me a definite answer if you are not familiar with Taylor Hall's autograph. I just want to know at least if I bought a terrible and obvious forgery.

Wish i knew Hockey I couldnt even name a current hockey player..Ive seen good on that site and some that makes me WTF....I wonder if they consign stuff also.

I think yours might be authentic. With the thick silver pen it's hard to say for 100%.

About 95% of the items listed on SportsMemorabilia.com aren't even owned by them. Go to the website and pick a guy, lets say Derek Jeter for example, pick an item say a jersey, then got to ebay and type in Derek Jeter signed jersey I'd bet you you'll find that same exact jersey half price on ebay. The kicker is they are using the photo's from the ebay sellers listings.
What they are doing is j****** the price up 50% and putting it on their site then when someone buys it they go to ebay and buy it for 50% off or more of what they paid.
Something I found strange a couple of weeks ago is sports memorabilia.com is an advertiser on ebay, I saw an ad for them when I was looking for something on ebay. Not sure the connection between them and ebay but you'd figure ebay would want to make the money why have a competitor advertising on their site. All very weird.

That's exactly what they do and they've been doing it for awhile.
They use other seller's auctions to list.
You have to be a moron to buy anything from them.

Jason D, I get what you're saying. I tend to avoid Ebay so I am not too familiar with that, but could it be possible that Ebay buyers are stealing pictures from Sportsmemorabilia.com instead of the other way around?
And do you know if Sportsmemorabilia.com is known to have issues with their hockey players' autographs? All the examples of the suspicion going on in that site is related to baseball players so makes me wonder if I have some hope that my puck is real. I mean... if it were a legend like Wayne Gretzky, I'd be a little more concerned but we're talking about someone else from Edmonton Oilers who haven't nearly stacked up as much points as Gretzky. Do I have any hope that his autograph is real? Anyway you seem knowledgeable and know how to question autographs from reading your other posts so thought I would ask you.

It's definitely not the other way around.
I once wrote a long article (link below) on the Derek Jeter forgeries certed by Global Authentics and SportsMemorabilia.com had a tom of Derek Jeter forgeries on their website. And in most cases they would list "10 Available."

Wow... So helpful. I'm reading your other thread right now and I can totally tell the difference in those authenticated by GA. My hockey puck was also authenticated by GA. So... is it real?

It's not the other way around they are in fact taking ebay sellers photo's for their listings. If you open some of their items you can see the ebay sellers watermark on the images. I don't know how they're able to get away with it but they do. I guess for ebay sellers (the legitimate ones I should say) it's another avenue for them to sell their items even though it is through a third party transaction, I just don't understand why a buyer would buy from them for twice the price when they can get it on ebay or whatever site for less than half the price. I looked at some of the items on Sports Mem and then the item on ebay and they are selling Derek Jeter jerseys (good ones I might add) for twice the price.
Here is an example of one of the items, if you open the listing on the sports mem site you can see the watermark on the bottom left for the ebay seller.

Notice the $4,000 price difference. This may not be a good example because it's a little over priced to begin with but for the sake of making this point it works.
As far as your Hockey puck, I am not an expert in Hockey signatures however compared to some that I've looked up since looking at yours I'd be on the fence about it. Maybe someone here is more versed on Hockey and can help better than me.
