I have been collecting Star Wars autographs since 1998.  Not all of my signatures are on Star Wars memorabilia.  For example, when I met Warwick Davis at a comic convention in New York City, I had him sign a Willow photograph.  I also have publicity photos of Sir Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee from the 1970s, and a Natalie Portman signed The Diary of Anne Frank theater poster from her performance on Broadway back in 1998.  My current wish list includes Peter Cushing, Terence Stamp and John Williams.  I am interested in knowing about the collections and wish lists of other members.

I see. Sorry I misread the intent of your post. That's a great topic idea. You're right... we all probably do it differently. The first thing I try to do is build an exemplar file based on items i've found from collectors and dealers I trust. There's nothing like coming to understand an autograph after looking at numerous exemples.

If there's no time for that, I ask Pete on Rebel Scum! :P

That's awesome. I would love to get everyone's take on their personal "steps to authentication" as well. Thanks for sharing that JXE!

....and you are right, we are blessed to have Pete's expertise on this site. Incredibly insightful!

Hi JXE,

That would be me.                                                                                          Been a bit busy lately so haven't had a chance to post.                                   I did find it a bit ironic that as soon as the NY AG's office contacted Ebay, Gridiron went dark. Actually, as soon as Gridiron heard from the PA & NY AG's office they stopped selling, then either they withdrew their listing or Ebay did it for them.                                                                             I did actually mention Celebrity Authentics in my complaints but since I didn't do business with them i couldn't go into it.

Hope to have some news shortly.

       Charlie,

Thanks Charlie.  Please keep us posted.

Speaking of JSA disasters, someone paid up to a grand for this poster "signed" by Natalie Portman and others:

JSA authenticating junk isn't anything new. What's interesting to me is this statement by the seller:

I purchased this at The Motor City Comic Con in Michigan in May 2000. I bought it from one of the episode one actors signing that day Jerome Blake. He told me that he was at the Royal Variety Premiere in London and these oversize 8x10 postcards were sitting on a table. He said he grabbed 10 or so of them and asked George, Natalie, Ray & Ewan to sign them which they did. I then purchased one off him at the Motor City Comic Con in 2000. He & Silas Carson signed it while I was there, I have had this in my collection for many years. Time to move it on to a new home with you.

So, who is lying: Jerome Blake or the seller? I am by no means an expert on his signature (in fact today is the first time I've ever even looked at it), but I trust that whether his signature is real or not is the first clue to solving this puzzle.

Also, I find it hilarious that the seller sent it off to JSA because people were contacting him saying it was fake... and it came back authentic!!! What is their process over there!?

Jerome is a good guy, he did indeed get cast members to sign large table cloth placemats, each one representing a planet or system in the Star Wars Universe.....they were sold to support a charity in the UK. I have met Jerome many times as early as 1999 and he never once offered anything for sale at his convention tables, aside from his own autograph.

Jerome, Silas and Ray all look fine, the Ewan and Natalie are disasters and the Lucas is just off enough to give me serious pause.

So JSA got this one half right, and my money is on the seller having a vivid imagination.

I remember seeing the placemats, but I didn't realize he was the one who collected them. That may have been what the seller used for the foundation of his story.

As for JSA getting it half right, they sure picked the worst possible half to get wrong!

I remember one of these was up for sale several months ago and I was drooling over it. Unfortunately, it will be forever out of my price range.

These are pretty sweet.. where can I get my hands on one of those?  Been looking for a full cast piece for a while now.  RR had some posters about 6 months back and I missed the auction.  Haven't seen another since.

They are all in private hands at the moment , but they do pop up now and again usually on ebay and usually for $4,000-$5,000

Solid.. the posters at RR were $1000-$2000 if i recall correctly.  I thought that was pretty decent for Lucas, Ford, Williams and the rest all on a poster.  The prequel ones with the Lucas, Portman combo must be impossible to get nowadays too.
